bros... anyone know where to get e shoe tree and shoe horn in Singapore? ed selling e tree at 70. looking around for alternatives..

din ask about e waxing and polishing stuff total noob on it. how to maintain e shoes huh? the saphir Issit good? have to do it after every wear Issit? Thanks in advance guys.

shoe tree i get from Muji the red cedar wood one. tangs or robinson also selling but not cedar wood.

shoe horn ikea and daiso can find already. tangs or robinson also have.

how to maintain shoe, i think here got enuf info already, don't need Uncle like broken record keep repeating myself.

saphir is good. but imo ANY other brand beats having totally no maintenance.

my routine is roughly monthly full servicing, bi/weekly polishing depending on use and after each use use a simple cotton rag or brush to clean before putting on the shoe trees.

Those are casual and nice enough to be worn with tees and jean/khakis. :)

My running shoe size US 8. Because after run feet will expand a bit.

My leather shoe size is 39 for snug fit, over the years will stretch to your feet. Certain lasts toe too narrow I have to upsize to 40.

Only real leather shoes will conform to your feet over time, the salesman who say other shoes will stretch is BSing.

Need to find out how much time saved. Lol
Not using finger technique but I sure love your wooden box. I just want something to hold on the shoe so that I can polish Ian's buff it easy. Anything to recommend

Wah, the box is tough. I haven't seen any alternatives in SG. There are normal boxes and small chests of rattan and plastic drawers that one can use to store the creams and waxes, obtainable from Muji though. Tbh, I don't really use the rest on the box much.

I remember when I was young, I always wait in anticipation in buying a pair of Nike or Adidas sports shoes, they still have a place in my heart of course but the excitement and of buying a true gentleman shoes.

I think Ed and DW are both excellent Anx provide quality in their fields and I am sure they would have predicted the Sg men would one day be so passionate about their shoes, who knows we can even compete with the ladies hehehe

when i was young nike shoes cost very cheap less than $30 or $40.

I dont think its prediction, i think its more like they knew that sg has become very rich, and many are willing and able to afford shoes with a high price, nothwithstanding whether quality good or no good. They know that men with deep pockets will still buy their stuff. Otherwise DW would not have expanded into sg. I dont see any DW shop in JB.

1st time I dropped by to take a look at their RTW collection. Went in, there were some others looking around so I just browsed around. Staff were very polite but not chatty which was fine by me. I've never liked to have people constantly trying to chat me up while I browsed around. Definitely not pushy or hard-selling.

Staff being chatty are not necessary being pushy or hard-selling though we have many such bad experiences, but usually these are the staff who do not have passion in what they are selling. People who have passion in their job will go all out to provide you endearing service. So the moment the sales staff opened his/her mouth we should know what kind of service we will be getting. Those i like i stay ard longer and likely to patronise. Those i dont like i walk out of the shop. Fair enough?

Not sure why you think it's not a prediction -- there is, IMHO, a trend towards the appreciation of the finer things in life just as there is a trend among the younger generation being more vocal and politically active. It's like Maslow's hierarchy of needs. At the basic level, you need sustenance etc, but as you scale the rungs, you want more (including freedom of speech, advocating for LGBT causes etc). Buying expensive stuff, and political choice are probably at the apex (you don't have to worry about sustenance), and when a country grows more affluent, and the citizens' other needs are met, they grow ready to spend more on luxury goods.

Based on trends, it's safe to make certain predictions.

Very rich and being able to afford doesn't equate to spending $$$ on shoes branded under local labels. The cultural practice is such that many rich men in SG spend on property, art, cars, watches, food etc. Clothing, much less shoes, are often, though not always, relegated to the lower of priorities. This is not to mention, there is often an inherent bias against local makers/designers, so there's no knowing what would have happened.

DW doesn't have to expand into SG. It's a Singaporean label from what I've heard.
