Working Shoe for Young Exec

Sounds like you may have bought the wrong size.

Size is fine lengthwise, it's the grip around my ankle/heel part and the front of my feet where the shoe laces are but my shoes are the slip-in kind. My feet is very narrow, I don't know how to explain. I can't wear shoes/slippers where the shoe is very high on that part.

One of my MTO arrive today. Can't say I am not excited....

Thankfully the sizing I have chosen turns out well which fits perfectly on my feet. Thanks to days of extensive research hehe. It feels..., entirely different from the rest of the RTW i have owned, as if the shoe is bespoke for me.

All area of the shoe feel just nice, not too loose, not too tight. Snug is not the word... With the infamous U last being notorious for clamping the toe area, my toes even has wiggling space. Vs olfe last, U last has a higher instep which rest on my feet perfectly... Maybe this is the first time I have gotten such a high range of shoe that I feel this way.

Conclusion :: **** I reckon that this is not the only pair

Thanks. A lot of people recommend sizing up but i stick to my true size UK8 after researching on the internal length, width, instep and other people experience. Just have to take a leap of faith.... I am glad it turns out well.

Yes but to be fair I have very strange feet as a result of two freak accidents I suffered when I was younger; both my pinky toes hang limply away from my other toes. I usually try to get a good snug fit initially and pray that the shoe breaks in nicely, but it's been a very painful experience with the U last; it's beautiful though, and I'm envious of people who fit nicely in it.

I think the price range should be around there approximately.

Just saw a single monk navy after discount = CAD 1,380 (SGD 1,593).

I emailed Phillip, he said prices were decided by retailer. Not sure who he was referring to, Kevin Seah or Leatherfoot.

I reckon the prices should be about $2000 for a pair of customs on calf leather, assuming you need to make adjustments to the last.

envious that your feet are probably of normal/narrow width. For wide feet guys like me means sticking with loakes or brands with G fit, else go for some form of custom or bespoke.

The french brands and mid-tier brands like C&J, carmina just don't seem to cater to wide feet.

The U last is named after shoemaker Roberto Ugolini. The main problem is the expensive risk you take without trying or even seeing the shoes irl. Its not so easily accessible and not many pple carry them.

I don't think the U-last will work for wider feet though.

Was asking more from a fit perspective since the comments are that it is a 'tricky' last.

In terms of accessibility and risk of buying dress shoes online, if one is based in Singapore quite frankly, there is only a small handful of brands where u will get the 'luxury' of trying irl. Everything else is a risk. Heck, we have Ballgag prepared to pull the trigger on a 4 digit EG online, though perhaps he might have had a chance to try the shoes before in Europe?

In any case, u nailed the coffin for me with the last line (or from an optimistic angle, saved me some $$), assuming you are speaking with experience or knowledge of the last (which I am sure you have at least one or the other).

Under utilized means was using it before and decided not to use any more because I no longer own any dress shoe that requires it? Didn't know this is an English Class thread .

U last was originally developed by Vass for the line of RTW shoes that they make for sale in Japan for Roberto Ugolini, a Florentine bespoke maker. Ugolini typical toe shape is an Italian chisel: narrow, square toe with an extremely prominent, very cut chisel. Vass's U last (get it? U for Ugolini. Mr. Vass is one clever dude!) is a very good approximation of that look, and shoes made on it are probably the most stunning in the Vass line-up.

U last has the reputation of being narrow. It is, at least in comparison to other Vass lasts other than K last. However, I don't think that it is particularly narrow in absolute terms. It's probably a full American D width (Europe/Asia E width). The problem with U, at least for me, is that it's elongated so that the toes don't get scrunched into the narrow toe box. This causes the shoe to break at the toenail of my little toe, which is uncomfortable. Others may not have this problem, and if they don't, they're in luck: U last can make some absolutely stunning shoes.

In my own word, because of the Italian chisel toe cap, U last will be elongated, hence the break of the cut in will happen at the toe area. That y for some people, the cut in area will squeeze the pinky toe and make them uncomfortable. To resolve this, people will size up 0.5 but that will create another problem, the crease area will not happen naturally as compared to other shoe due to the longer length...Well some result of my research

Anyway, I have checked with Vass, if the size doesn't fit, I can either exchange for another size or they can refund partial credit to me as future purchase...
