Trying sizing in a trunk show and then proceeding to get online is a bit of a jerk move. My 2 cents.

Curious as to that sentiment.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'd thought that most truck shows are done by the shoe coy direct, to show off new lasts, models etc by a rep travelling around (Eg Mr. Phillip Car, MD of SC)? So won't they still profit regardless of purchase avenues?

At least, that's what I presumed trunk shows to be. Manufacturers direct to Consumers.

Now, different story if its paid for, organised and hosted by a local distributor's rep and then purchases made through another agent of course.

Cheers

If I am not wrong, the host typically gets a cut from sales derived during the trunk show. For most of these big brands, they don't really 'need' to do the trunk show and it could be relationship-based. The host needs a good value proposition to entice the top shoemakers.

Not sure if the above applies for a relatively untested market like Singapore.. Having said that, I recall the shoe snob (Justin) mentioning on his blog that Singapore was (by far) the most successful trunk show he ever done sales-wise.

And as a somewhat related parting note, some of you may recall StC was supposed to do a trunk with KS last year which got called off. One can only wonder why..

If you follow the Skoak thread in SF, someone mentioned that they want to get sizing from a trunk show and then order from Skoak. Caused @leaves to freak out.
@leaves runs Skoak.

Does anyone know any decent places/cobblers who can do a full leather resole?
I have a pair of good year welted ballys thats due for resoling soon.

I've checked reviews on the net and reviews on Mr minit and skukey aren't very good.

Thanks for the sharing!

Yea the cut makes sense. Some truck show hosts aren't even distributors or agents of said companies but are still willing to accommodate such events in their facilities. Other than been reinforced as the de rigueur purveyor for fashionable gents, guess the financial part certainly plays as an incentive too.

Maybe one day one of us here may even host a show at home :s13:

There was the carmina thingy also yea? :s22:

Cheers for the info. Will go check it out. Will be good to know if there are any further reasoning behind that business decision other than the usual agent/distributor coverage/commission reasons.

Edit**

Found Leaves' reply for anyone interested. Post #12559

"I strongly recommend that you order from the retailer that takes the time to do a fitting with you, especially if it's a trunk show, because retailers often share the travel expenses for trunk shows."

GYW resole only EEA locally or else send back to factory.

Back one page dark_aLLey noted that costs for EEA will be 180 for non EEA branded resoles.

Up to you to weigh the cost and decide which option you want

Does anyone have experience with Alfred Sargent as compared to Carmina?

Would be great if you can share inputs on quality of leather, craftmanship etc. Thanks,

They are rather different in terms of price point.

IMO, AS are a grade higher in terms of the quality of leather which feels more supple and softer as compared to Carmina, but that's not to say that Carmina is of lower quality.

I also prefer AS for their more pronounced waist and sole finishing.

However, in terms of overall quality control, I will tend to favour Carmina. There were a couple loose threads on my AS brogues bought recently. Not a deal-breaker, but I will just put it down to one of their minor quirks.

I find Carmina pricing to be the most bang-for-buck proposition, but my preference will veer towards AS for a better fit. That being said, fit is subjective it really depends on the individual's feet shape.

AS price point is a notch above Carmina. Based on limited experience trying and handling both brands of shoes and general internet consensus, this does translate to discernible differences e.g.leather quality, use of oak bark in the closed channel stitched soles.

Whether the price-value difference is proportionate would be subject to personal opinion. I know of a few people who felt underwhelmed or even disappointed.

Thanks. I have been thinking of Alfred Sargent Moore for my next shoe. Or sticking with Carmina (but going for cordovan wholecut).

But the killer attraction for me is the Saint Crispin's Adelaide.
