hey morning, nono not the entire sole. just hole the size of 1-2cm near the ball of the sole.

like the one in the picture, just that now its in the later stage (1cm big), i've put insole to slow down the opening up process and to protect my socks from getting torn and feet from getting wet

I cant remember exactly how much I paid for the shipping charges to return the shoes (3 pairs) but it should be close to S$100. Singpost's charges are exorbitant and that is not even the fastest. Herringshoes will send out the new pairs as soon as they received the returned ones. They did not charge shipping for these. I did not get the sizes wrong from then now so the hassle of returning the first order was at least worth it.

I am not sure about the handling charge but it seems to be for weekend deliveries. Yes I paid (S$10), if not the DHL guy will not release the shoes to me. I ordered on a Friday and expect the shoes from Monday onwards but it came on Sunday! i was impressed.

Anyone planning to order from Herringshoes soon or in the midst of one?

Are you planning to get another pair? I am still undecided on the width of F and G.

How long have you worn your shoes for? If there's a hole through the sole already and water is getting in then it's probably time to get a new pair. I guess rubber soles will help slow down the wear since they get worn down first, and you can always replace them!

The tread is worn out completely.
Get them resoled or get a new pair.

i have worn it close to 1.5years on an average.

and yup i believe i should get a new pair soon, mending the soles wouldnt help much cuz even the "vamp" part is close to tearing as well.

any recommendations on how to go about adding on rubber soles? some advises on the brand of sole(i googled a little and found vibram to be quite lasting), and most importantly any recommendations for a cobbler?

sorry for all the beginner questions, i've previously brought my shoes to the roadside cobblers at holland village but they do not know anything about vibram sole protectors..

appreciate your help!

i'll need to find out where to have shoe soles protected so i can have it protected(perhaps with a rubber sole) right from Day 1.

It happened to me before. Bought from Robinsons, it was some italian brand at about 100+. And you all know how I realised? When my intern boss asked me to bring an umbrella for her next block cause it was pouring (it was the day that Wendy, Hermes and Starbucks got 'ponded') and I walked into a puddle and felt water gushed in. I knew gg already.

After that, the pair became my dry day shoe.

I have no doubt about the benefits but its not easy to get a shine with Obenauf. Thats the problem i have. Or is there anyone who has experience using and can advise?

I read about Saphir products, maybe you can try also.

I would go with F. Its nicer but thats me. I guess the width of your feet plays a part also.

I just bought a pair of Herring's Shakespeare II last Friday, and it arrived just this Monday afternoon. Quite pleasantly surprised at the speed of delivery, and their customer service is excellent as testified by countless others - they replied my email queries promptly.

The shoes are a burgundy red-brown colour, and so is the polish that came with it. I'm thinking of using a brown polish on the shoe to make it less red - easier to match I think. Anyone tried this before?

I got some Saphir recently, it's amazing compared to what I was using before.

arctuates, do you find it weird that just the toecap is mirror-shined? For a start, I have never seen anyone else (in real life) with a mirror shine on the toecaps. I had mine close to mirror, but it felt a bit weird, so right now I got it back to "normal".
