hi guys, anyone can recommend me decently priced shoes for working in an office environment?

As I am currently a student only and do not have much experience in these but I am thinking of trying to avoid the typical kind of leather shoes. Would be nicer if there are pictures of what is also acceptable for work so I know what to look out for when shopping for shoes.

I was told of "Attire: Office/business attire". Does this include me having to wear a tie at all times or is it sufficient to just bring along one?

It depends on the company's definition, some require tie and some don't.

For decently priced shoes, just go to any department store (Metro, Robinsons, etc) and check out the mens' shoes section

I'd recommend meermin if you're looking for a pair of value for money classsic shoe. You can also check with plal. I recently bought a black cap toe from Meermin's Linea Maestro collection and a cheaney's seconds from plal and wasn't disappointed.

What's your budget?

Prob $300, my benchmark is usually around an equivalent Herring or Loake shoe. I didn't consider meermin. Been so busy looking at uk brands. I will take a look at their website. How much was shipping?

The last time I was at plal, their seconds selection in uk10 was quite disappointing. But I did pick up my loakes there.

There's a model from Loake called Regent. But it's discontinued. I should try dropping a email to Doshi to check if he has it.

Shipping is about 40 euros but with the low euro and VAT i think you can nail quite a good deal. The Linea Maestro model that i got is pretty good. Leather and construction wise is pretty similar to a pair of Carminas i have just that Carminas have a better finishing. Costs me 400 odd in total.

I bought a pair of herring made by loake and didn't quite fancy the leather. Quality wise is still there and as good as Allen Edmonds. Only upside they have is probably they have sleeker and more modern lasts.

You can also try the special offers section at Septieme Largeur. If you find a shoe your size, it can be a really good deal.

plal.com offers some very good cheaney seconds at a very attractive price point. you should check it out. I'd go with cheaney any day rather than settle for a pair of loakes.

Well, I found these from Meermin, MEERMIN - Coleccin Clsica > BLUCHERS > 101090 - GRABADO NANTES CUERO, I would have preferred them in smooth leather, but the grain looks relatively inoffensive so I think I might give them a shot.

These should straddle the line perfectly between business and casual.

My Barker is reserve for some format occasion, and I being looking for a Grenson. Loake will be a good bet if you can get it less than $200.

Worst is Hush Puppies as I had sole dropping off and also another pair of casual shoes disintegrating after a few years. For Rockport, I have mixed review on their material used.

I can confirm that Hush Puppies' quality is quite bad. Thanks for the detailed writeup on the many brands but I am not sure what NOS is. I think Hudson is quite nice but I saw online that they are quite cheap.

you can actually go for bespoke shoes..there is one boutique called Q MENSWEAR at telok ayer street that does it..100% bespoke..they will measure your feet and do a mould so your shoe will fit you perfectly..and u can customize your design..choose fabric and color etc..affordable price too

Obviously, you have a commercial interest in the company, so why not step up and explain the bespoke process rather than mindlessly advertising.

4. Should i buy the matching belts from herrings?

I did some calculations on my own. Considering the exemption from vat charges,
Shoe : $92
Herrings Valet Box : $38
Shipping - 2 Items = 25
Total = (155 x 2(Exchange rate))
= SGD$310.

Please advise.

If u are buying black shoes, then no need. Black belts are black belts. But if u are buying brown shoes, I will buy the matching belt from herrings.

You should get this...as stated on the website:

1. confirm don't have shoe tree for clearance item, I had emailed them and asked this question.

2. I believe it comes with the shoe wax/brushes, not just the box, but you should email them and ask them, it is clearer.

3. no VAT charges, ordered 2 pairs from them with no VAT so far.
