they are mainly of the lower range. Loakes design or loakes lifestyle if i am not wrong.
Just get what u like.
Edetal is made in Vietnam
Meermin is made in china finished in Spain
Herring made in a few place higher end uk, else Spain or maybe India.
AE - all Goodyear welted done in USA.
U can do more research on the style and decide.
thanks. AE is nice but i think they are out of my budget.
am looking for brogues but $300 doesnt give me a lot of choices right?
There are quite a number of AE styles (usually the cheaper ones) made in Dominican Republic, not USA.
On a side note, personally not too impressed with Ed et Al's rtw.
Koala: save up a lil bit more and get quality brogues that'll last?

Nothing much just a potato pic. Just wanted to thank those bros that helped me out with size. I took a shot in the dark,went with UK9 down from my US10 and it fit really well. Thanks again

Yeah sizing is going to be a tough one but just take the size you usually wear and compare that with the results of the AE sizing guide (take it in the afternoon or evening with your favorite work sock and on a hard surface).
The last used for the shoe is a big factor in determining the comfort of your fit. I have an AE Walden in 9E and they felt nicely snug but the foot bed is too narrow. I have to wear thinner socks if not it starts to hurt on the outside of the foot come late afternoon. On the other hand, my AE Fifth Ave is also in 9E and while most forums say that this last is narrower and longer than average, I find them to fit just nice.
Also remember that the size of the shoe determines the width of the foot bed. The width of the shoe determines the circumference (how much material). So getting a good fit really depends on the last.
While the general rule of width down size up generally equates to the same size, size up width down can also result in a good fit (as is the solution to my Waldens).
That's why I indicated only Goodyear welt ones are in USA. Those non Goodyear welt are usually the cheaper ones and they are made in Dominican Republic

U can email AE at cacmail@allenedmonds.com to get a list of factory seconds and close out design they are a lot cheaper. Just use mail forwarder to get them to sg.
I saw a pair at AE factory for us$99 but its the last pair in close out section. I got a pair of weybridge for usd$129 usual at usd$325. Even amazon price isn't that low

Shoeshine Uncle says even plastic shoe can be polished. Just that on a corrected grain you will need more time and effort to achieve a shine, ie layers upon layers of polish. If you accidentally chip off the layers of polish have to repeat the entire process.
I presume they ship direct to SG?
They do but it cost a bomb for their handling fees! Not worth it.

Order is a pain, only phone order and get them ship to your mail forwarder since it free in USA.
A cheap $10-20 phonecard should do the trick very nicely.

Just to share on my leather shoes quest....
I have been buying leather shoes for work every year or 1+ year as the usual brands of shoes from retail shops like Hush puppies, Clarks, Bose Morgan, Rad Russels etc would worn out quite fast; either with cemented soles splitting from the sides or rubber soles worn out resulting in water seeping in during rain. Other more expensive brands I bought like Rockport, Ecco and Geox did last longer (some about 2 years) but eventually the cemented soles split.
Finally I got really pissed when the soles of the Rad Russels I bought started to have a hole in around 6 months and the toes "leather" surface turned grey when I accidentally scuffed my shoes against the stairs. (I think it might be some fake leather on "cardboard").
That is when I check out HWZ and found this fantastic thread and read up on the recommendations and purchases by many bros here.
Not wanting to feel the pinch on my wallet to get those really expensive brands, I limit myself to a budget of S$300 in my quest to look for better quality leather shoes.
After buying my first pair of better quality black leather shoes from Herrings, I am hooked by the comfort and began to look for more better quality shoes
Never had I worn a pair of new leather shoes without any blisters or abrasions from day 1 and after wearing a whole day at work my socks doesn't feel sticky (didn't stick to my feet and toes).
In my search for brown shoes, I went to Ed et Al and tried their brown doublemonks. Nearly bought them on the spot but decided to do more research on other options as I find that Ed et Al's finishing (especially the interior) does not look as good as my pair of Herrings.
After reading some reviews of Meermin doublemonks, I decided give it a try and placed my order with Meermin and requested them to burnish the toes. I also bought some Saphir Renovateur from Meermin and sold to a few bros here so as share the shipping costs, which works out to be much cheaper than Ed et Al's cost for Saphir Renovateur and benefited myself and these bros. [So here is my tip to any bros who want to order from Meermin and save on the 40€ shipping]
But Meermin's delivery really takes very long , nearly 3months from the time I place my order! Herrings took less than 5 days.
Do note that VAT (which is about 15-20%) will be deducted from the item cost when you make your purchase from European websites and ship them out of Europe.
With Amazon's free shipping above U$125, Allen Edmonds has become my next purchase

Herrings has promo codes for either free shoe trees (only for Herrings brand shoes) or 10% discount. Can Google and look for the promo codes.
Another website similar to Herrings which also carries UK brands like Loake, Cheaney, Church's is Robinson's shoemakers. It has lesser range than Herrings but provides free shipping! Their shipping takes a bit longer than Herrings, about 2 weeks from a friend's experience.

I saw this and decided against this brand. A whopping US$450 for a pair of shoes, that will convert to S$600. Might as well get customs from Ed At Al.
If u get them to ship it cost a bomb it's like that for many brands that operate on smaller scale.
Compgateway etc will cut the cost down by a whole lot.
Think outside the box man. Or ppl here order on amazon it's free shipping just that prices is at retail.
For those going to Italy, Florence can only custom order Italian made shoes for ~€250 and up.
Don't recall the shop name but I think it's MANNINA FIRENZE .: azienda :. order can be a pain I reckon too.
