Nice! I just digged my tangs card out from my drawer, ready to go

The hector loafer looks deliciously royal. Nice color

Thanks! The navy looks alot richer in real life, best to go physically take a look! :s12:

Next time you got roadshow, I will gatecrash and set up my shoeshine stall at the roadside. Business sure will be good, shine and ready to wear on the spot.

You wouldn't want to wear your new leather shoes without any protection. :s13::s13::s13:

Happy birthday Singapore, and fellow Singaporeans. Proud that Singapore has made it this far. :)

*sad to be out of Singapore on her birthday, but Singapore is made up of her people, and being surrounded by fellow Singaporeans abroad is a jolly good consolation.

Just saw that Meermin LM MTO prices are very close to Vass RTW.

Can someone please enlighten me on the differences, besides the lasts?

Is Florsheim a better choice over Meermin?
Thinking of buying from them for the convenience as they are being sold in Marina Sq.
Suspect might be overpriced here though.

Read that new florsheim nowhere near the older ones. In Any case, amazon free shipping over usd125. American brand from amazon should better price.

MTO means u can order in any colour, size etc on existing lasts.

Thanks, but no thanks.

The MTO and RTW is with reference to the prices, and is not part of the question.

The question is: how is Vass quality different from Meermin LM quality. I only have 2 pairs of Vass and no Meermin, so someone help. TIA.

Florsheim uses corrected grain leather I believe. Totally not worth the price. Meermin uses full grain leather, am I right?

Vass RTW is about €420 incl VAT. Meermin LM is €260 incl VAT. I don't see how they are even close in price, which is the basis of your original qn. Vass is 50% more ex than Meermin LM.

I would say that Vass is better in construction and worksmanship.

I saw a figure for Meermin LM MTO going up to €370, but I've no idea if that includes the shipping and VAT. MTO means additional €80?

The cheapest Vass RTW is €390 for the standard models, including VAT.

Some peeps raving about Meermin LM. I wonder if it's true? What differences do you see in construction or workmanship?

Seems like only the Imperial series for Florsheim is worth it...

Last time I dropped by the new store selling Florsheim shoes, their Imperial collection had limited variety. What prices are they at now?

I recall it was really quite high. Might as well go for Ed Et Al RTW or the new shoe line at Tangs.

I like the Meermin Ofle and Hiro last. I think there is room to have both Meermin and Vass in your collection.

Meermin allows for returns if sizing is incorrect, so the risk is minimal. Only have to cover shipping to Meermin. If I'm not wrong, shipping a package from Singapore shouldn't be that expensive if you don't send the box along. Just have it sent via normal mail.

On another note, I dug out an old picture of my first pair of Girlings. Had this made up, and purchased it as part of my black-tie rig that I had intended to wear when I was accepted by Cambridge. Alas, I decided (foolishly) against going there, plus I bought a pair of opera pumps, and so have never worn the boots. I guess I could probably wear it as part of a conservative outfit.

For those who don't know, dinners at both Oxford and Cambridge, where the dress-code is black-tie, are organized on a fairly regular basis. Also, May Ball, where students party till the wee hours of the morning, often calls for White Tie. Yes, yes, I wanted to go there so I could dine frequently in black-tie :s13:
