Ok, gone to find the prices for Bata Ambassador.

All leather shoes for the price of SG$99 or SG79 at some stores with discount. It is just plain good value for money I guess with leather soles.

Looks v nice. Makes me look like fool, cos i bought black hammer in metro... Haha.
Soles already burned out and slanted somemore

i think the latest range of Bata Ambassador are rubber soled, that's why cheaper.

i remember in 2005 or 2006 i bought a pair of BAs which were goodyear welted, cost me $179 at that time.

GY sole are only worth it if upper is durable. The upper good or not?

When I check Saphir Renovateur the price is $21.95 even with 15% discount and using US 1.28 exchange rate, the price is about S$23 before shipping

Yes, the renovataur on afinepairofshoe is $10 GBP, after excluding VAT, which is their gst tax, it became lower,

And times x 2 for sgd, its still below $20.

Anw its the wax that is cheaper, and other cream polish.

Btw spray cannot ship out right? Lucky no 1 getting sprays. Have to double check tonight.

exclude vat is 100/120 = 83%. 100-83 = 16.66%

It lasted for at least 5 years? Not everyday wear though...

Army boots upper good or not? They last a long time esp ppl are cleaning and polishing daily.
No matter how good is upper still need to take care else ....

Who cares about army boots... The upper has to be comfortable and at least look non-fugly for me to bother. In fact, the quality of construction is the biggest problem and one of the most apparent in SAF boots. The freaking outsole detaches easily after a year. Had lots of friends walking around with crocodile mouth boots after a year.

My first pair of navy suede shoes arrived. Looks darker than I expected.

Now I have to figure out how to care for this... It's a freaking dust magnet.

That would depend on why it's cheapo... Maybe the upper, maybe the way it is put together. Personally, I never considered army boots cheapo anyway, at 100 to 200... There are many types of army boots too, yea? What are the uppers made of anyway?

I won't know how long the upper can last if the outsole is destroyed early. Limiting factor right there. So, oh well... SAF for ya.

Having said all that, I get your point.
