I found an alternative to Saphir Reno. Cheaper or not see the shipping will kill or not first.

ZOES Venetian Shoe Cream
Amazon.com: Venetian Shoe Cream: Everything Else

32oz tin for $33 USD. I think this tin can share into at least 4 portions of 8 oz each. Very cheap if can topang the order into a freight forwarder. If not, just shipping one tin alone will up the cost to double so is like same price with reno.

The issue is the tin look like some flammable petroleum product dunno can go up airfreight or not.

The smaller bottle look more harmless

Rancourt & Company

Anyone interested in MO pls let me know.

I've heard quite a bit about this product as well. It may be unlikely for a freight forwarder to accept this for shipping; most of them now open the shipping boxes to check the contents. If this is similar to the Reno I think it will be marked as flammable

I had to pay to return a shipment of Saphir from comgateway before :(

Reno is not so flammable as Venetian which is made of turpentine. Open the tin smell will know is flamable, so air frieght is out of the question.

how does vnc and obenauf affect chromexcel? still thinking on what to get.

from what I read I only know vnc provides more shine...got any more differences?

I'm assuming your chromexcel's original from Horween? They recommend Neatsfoot oil for Chromexcel. Chromexcel® « Horween Leather Company

I have a cordovan wallet (customized fat herbie renamed as the model "Tony the Ant" ) from Ashland but I'm currently using renovator(saphir/phil ashland recommends the cordovan creme though) and AE's cordovan polish on it. The shine's not bad but VNC and Saphir's cordovan creme seems to have a quicker shine based on online reviews.

Looking forward to seeing the difference with VNC if I do manage to get it.
Also, Nick Horween (Owner of Horween Tannery uses nhorween as handles in forums) states the reason for his endorsement of VNC here.

Thanks guys for the precious information shared.
Especially Petia on his shoe shine techniques and shoe care. As well as Gambier information for trifting. Had to take notes on e phone with so much information before I forgot.
Really appreciate the meetup.

The night was spent on eating and drinking and discussing shoes and clothing. Gambier (sic) shared with us his experiences thrifting on ebay, especially sports jackets.

It was a nice place to chill out till the EPL fans came in and started shouting and disrupting our conversation. We left promptly after that.

Before we left I demonstrated my Emergency Shine Procedure. I do this all the time in office to touch up my shoes. All it takes is less than 5 minutes to do, so there is no reason not to shine your shoes.

I also showed the way I do finishing touches, ie use of breath and a nylon stocking to buff. The gentlemen find that made a significant difference to the 5min shined toecap. But your female colleagues might give you strange stares when you are seen holding nylon stockings.

Thank you everyone for attending and sharing your valuable knowledge. I have learnt much from you guys.

Got a weird look from my wife when I asked her for used stockings. When I explained I wanna use for shining shoes, still get the weird look, then she reply why I don't use my old socks. Lol

They're also used for protection and conditioning of Cordovan Shell leather (which has slightly different care routine from other leathers) based on my experience..

Neatsfoot is more for conditioning of Chromexcel. If it's to protect against rain and such, some people say sno seal, some say obenauf but take note these will darken the leather based on most reviews esp. obenauf. I don't have any Chromexcel leather stuff so I can only regurgitate what I heard about them online.

Hi there,

Locally I notice not many nice designs and quality shoes available. Those that fit my requirement but not my pocket! Thus, I sincerely need advice from those who had purchased successfully from Meermin:

A) I am interested in their "Buckles > Black Calf > 101341-s, I usually don US 11 (300mm) or size 43 for both my sport shoe and working shoe, may I know is their sizing "standard" as their US 11 is 298mm and US 11.5 is 302mm. Based on their size chart, which size should I deceide on?

B) The total cost would be 160€ (shoe) + 35€ (via UPS), am I right? Does it include shoe tree? Any other hidden cost?

C) How long does it take for the shoe to reach our shore?

TIA

My best advice to you is to go to Robinsons and try on their Loake shoes in a model you intend to buy from Meermin. Note the UK sizing. That should correspond with your Meermin size which, from XP, adopts the UK sizing system. Also, email the Meermin chaps for feedback on size.

On pricing, Meermin takes off 21% because you live outside EU, so it's 126 euros + 35 euros = 278 SGD.

Shipping for two pairs is 40 euros I think.

How long it takes depends on whether the shoes are in stock. If you want the shoes by a definite date, order early.

To add on, shoe trees are sold separately.

Hi there,

Thanks for your valuable info. Will drop by Robinson but must the sizing come from Loake shoe? In fact, I have written to them 6 months ago in regards of its sizing but I doubt they will reply me. Thank you very much.

Also glad to know that 21% off thingy. No wonder someone mentioned that it's kind off cheaper to buy at Meermin than locally.

I tried Loakes size at Robinson (UK 7.5) and purchased Meermin double monks UK7.5 which fits just nice (at the start it was tight but after a few weeks it is perfect) for me.
I also email Meermin the length and width of the outline of my feet (with socks to draw the outline on a piece of paper). They replied me and recommend size 7.5.

My Meermin double monks 101341 - DARK BROWN CALF took more than 2 months to arrive which is probably due to no stock at the time of order.
