Thanks. Yeah, actually both sides have the diagonal crease which is more even on this pair. I have other pairs that have creases in different angles. Some crease more and some crease less. But I wouldn't worry too much about creasing itself but rather how well the shoe holds up and ages.

After all, creasing is part and parcel of a leather shoe so enjoy it!

Does anyone know the difference between the usual and Kempt collection? Is it just the GY welting vs blake? Or is the leather also different?

I asked the staff on this. Both the GY and kempt uses calf leather from European tanneries but of different grade.

What I didn't ask but suspect, is that the lining and sole for Kempt may not be leather or else probably also of lower grade leather.

Shoes in the kempt collection are all based on the same last, which is in turn is a last used for many of their GY collection shoes.

Hmm... that's part of the enjoyment of owning a good pair of shoes together with the slow patina built up instead of faux painted on patina right?

Depends on the finishing of the leather. Those glossy leather is less affected by patina while matte leather is faster.

Darker leather will show lighter patina at places of stress.

Thinking of getting me a few pairs of Woodlore Cedar Shoe Trees from Amazon. Anyone can advice on the sizing for Ed Et Al shoes? I wear a 45/46

I got it off the shelf but sent it for stretching at fifty five, took over a week for them to be done.

I see.. I wear size 43 and that translates to about a US9.5/10, which is why I estimate your 45/46 to be US12.

Anyway, the "conversion" from edetal size to US size should not be important.

Woodlore trees are US sized. So assuming you own US size shoes, just order the trees in the same size as a pair of your US size shoes that fits similar to your Merlion II.

I also have a pair of the mounbatten in the same color, but I only wear it 1-2times a month on Fridays. Ask u. Does your laces wear off fast? My laces are like quite "chui" liaoz, don't know is it because I pull too tight causing it to rub on the hooks. Making me thinking if I should buy the same laces from edetal again, or find other more durable sources...

Yes I wear the boots to office. They have a plain captoe and a slim sole, so they pretty much look like plain old bluchers when your pants cover the top.

Comfort wise, Loake was comfy right out of the box. Meermin took a bit of breaking in, but that might be because it's a tad bit loose. Leather quality, both similar to me. Construction wise, the Loakes are a bit better finished. The Meermins got a bit of roughness along the sole edge. But all in all, I'd rate them even and would just go with whichever I could get the better deal for

Yeah my laces also look quite worn out. I plan to get from ebay when needed. Have seen suitable 150cm waxed dress laces for $5-6 before.

How long have u had the shoes? Certainly looks well maintained. Also i guess u have been using a slightly darker cream/polish? The colour has turned fr tan to darker chestnut.
