Which last was the loake u tried based on? The loake capital last n meermin hiro last are quite similar. Olfe last more narrow. See the last few pgs discussion

No idea what the last is for the Loake. Saw 3 wingtips and only 1 is the 1880 edition. Tried on the 1880.

I wear a uk5.5 loake in capital last. here are my measurement for comparison.

feet length 243mm
ball width 98mm
ball girth 232mm

Buying shoes off the rack locally is a pain because of the smaller than average size ya?

I am thinking of getting a pair of Allen Edmonds Strands (supposedly the most popular and well-known alongside Park Ave). Anyone owns a pair of this model and is able to provide feedback as to whether the price is justified, or are there better shoes for this price range?

I am vexed as to the colour selection. Walnut is obviously the most popular among AE enthusiasts, but bourbon seems to be catching up in terms of popularity as well. Can the shoe connoisseurs in this forum provide advice as to how I should make an informed decision?

Am I right to say that bourbon (being a darker shade of colour) is much more flexible and versatile than walnut? I read somewhere that your shoes should always be of darker tone than the colour of your pants. Hence, walnut being a lighter colour naturally restricts the types of pants you can wear to complement your outfit.

Here's my strand in walnut. It's actually slightly darker in person. If there's a pair of AE shoes you must own then it has to be either the Walnut Strand/Merlot MaCallister.



Note that Bourbon calf is actually dyed walnut calf but burnished with black polish by AE workers.
Those who use Renovatuer will see some black polish coming off of their Bourbon calf shoes.
As such, you can actually condition your walnut shoes to bourbon by polishing it with black polish. I think people in Styleforum has rocked the Walnut Strands with Navy and Grey pants.

As for when to buy. Generally they don't discount much for Strands so if first goes for around USD295 during their Discover American sale last Oct. Seconds also aren't cheap at around USD200++

You should look out for their OEM Brook Brothers Strand which is often going at USD150 during their closeout sale. The only difference is the sole and the different insole.

I've lots of grey pants so I normally wear it with them... The problem is actually matching belts since AE Walnut is quite a distinct varient of Tan color and it's quite hard to get a belt in Singapore for one that is similar in color. Probably will post a pic next week when I'm sporting them
