Would like to check if anyone here owns meermin shoes? What do you think of their shoes sizing? I wear 41 in edetal, us 8 cole haans.
thanks, just checked their websites, they look pretty good too! will be paying them a visit. bexley seems to have an offer going on online, 90euro for 2nd pair after 139e for first pair
haha, i was at the store where they had discounts for their old stock(?) in jermyn. i think the service was even better than the larger one along jermyn
as for carmina, they do look nice, but i won't be visiting spain so i think meermin and carmina are out.
budget's about $300-$400, just need some shoes for school/internships
also, what do you guys think about cap toes vs wholecuts? is there a difference in formality or its just a looks issue
thanks for all the feedback!
I think your shoe size is similar to mine. Usually wear 40 or 41, US 8-8.5. I've tried some Meermins when i was in Tokyo last week. The size will vary a little depending on the last. I tried what I believed to be a new rey last (or one of the 2 slimmer lasts) and and UK 8.5 was probably good for me. Olfe(i think) last, a 8 or 8.5 (UK) would have been a good fit as well.
They had limited stocks at the store so couldn't try much.
Thank you for your reply.
I am currently planning to take a short trip to japan probably this year end. Would like to check with you if the retail prices at the outlet are priced similarly to the ones we could pre order online?
Japan has plenty of shoemakers, don't limit yourself to meermin alone.
Pretty generous budget you have there for a student.
Wholecuts probably look more refined but cap toes are the "standard" formal shoes for business purpose. All in black by the way. Personally would think cap toes to be more appropriate in your situation. Explore different colours and designs as u progress on.

Funny you should mention it, I just polished my Edetal RTW shooz over the weekend and I was thinking I should snap a pic.

Thank you for your reply.

They don't have much Meermins when I visited them. The collection consists of mainly Meermins by Carmina. These were in the 60000 Yen range.
They had a few Meermin LM range on sale, likely to be older models or local models maybe? Didn't find them on the website. Those on sale are a couple of bucks cheaper than ordering online but limited sizes and colours.
But don't limit yourself to just meermins. There are other shoemakers there but I didn't have the time to explore as I was on a work trip, plus I didn't know where to find the rest either.
1 word of caution, google maps doesn't show you a very clear indication of where the store is actually at. if you look at the street view, it shows you a carpark and a building. The initial view has you starnding at a t junction with the carpark on the right, small lane in the middle and a building to the left. The store is actually on the next street behind the building on street view. The store is in a white building facing a small street btw.
Hard to describe as there are so many small lanes around there....

I actually think captoes have the more refined look. Wholecuts look formal only if well polished, which in reality is seldom the case.
Something to take note abt wholecuts: they tend to crease badly. Or the creases are more noticeable because there are no details to look at
Actually with your budget and given that it'll be for school/attachments. Maybe you should just buy 2 pairs of meermins to rotate (provided you can wait for them). Otherwise a pair of loake captoes will be good enough starting out.
Agree with arc that captoes look more refined and easier to maintain.
You can consider Ed Et Al, it's local and cost about S$300. Any exchange or refund can also be done also immediately, fuss free.
Do they have Trickers there?
really want to see meermin as everyone says its great value.. but I haven't gotten shoes online before so I'm pretty wary. especially when fit is so important. will take a look at loake!
side note, when you say rotate them, do people usually buy 2 of the same shoes and rotate them on a daily basis?
Thought of that before, what are your thoughts on their durability? They look great and i'd definitely support a local store with the same value as other brands, but my friend had a durability issue with their slip on's.(wore out pretty quickly) not sure what he did about it though.
Just googled, they've a store on Jermyn, but i seem to have missed it....
Thanks for all the replies guys!
