Depends on material, style and degree of brogue i feel. I think quarter-brogue is great, semi-brogue okay. Full brogue only if it's very dark colour else I feel it's too flashy for formal. Textured materials like suede, scotch grain etc as well as styles like derby/blucher/monkstrap decreases the formality imo.

Went to check out Ed Et AL. Wow they sure are expensive, the RTW pair I was looking at cost SGD 349!

I read online blog reviews say below SGD 300.

Good one there. Fact of matter is, not just singapore but i believe in most cities, the average person isn't accustomed to spending more than usd200-300 on work shoes. The population on this thread is highly unrepresentative. Lol

That would be the kempt range but I've not seen it much these days.

Re the post on Yanko shoes: It does seem like a solid choice and reviews thus far shows that the leather quality is indeed comparable to that of carmina's.

I think there is an online retailer that sells them at very reasonable prices (~270 euros; cf Carmina which costs ~340 euro). However, they carry exclusively models based on the 915 lasts (which is extremely similar to Carmina's Simpson lasts)

I am indeed interested in getting one but the costs of shipping seems prohibitive (~50 euros). I contacted the retailer and he suggested that one possible way is to split the costs of shipping by ordering several pairs - honestly I'm not sure how does ordering several pairs alleviate shipping fees since I don't really do much online shopping but I will enquire further). Hence I am wondering if anyone else is sharing the same expression of interests as me and maybe get something going

Do they charge vat or will that be taken out if the 270 during purchase?

but sad at the same time that the navy cordovan oxford don't have my size.

This is what makes it a really good deal imo (provided that shipping costs can really be split and that you can fit into Carmina's Simpson last). @dark_alley - I'm looking at Skolyx. I totally concur with you regarding patine's raw calf; it really does seem tempting haha. But as far as I know there are no options regarding shipping to SG insofar as patine is concerned

Pantine does ship to SG based on my enquiry. However, they will not be able to deduct VAT unless we can provide customs clearance documentation which I have no clue about. I was keen on the raw calf and doing up my own patina but sadly the price is more than what i'm willing to pay for a shoe I will likely botch up as my 1st trial to patina on my own.

If Skolyx can deduct VAT and the shipping is at a flat rate, it would be a very good price indeed! I so happen to quite like Carmina's Simpson last so......

Is it normal for one to spend a lot of effort to fit into a pair of oxford shoes?

I just got my pair of Meermin oxford, fit nicely and snug around my feet, but it's a pain to insert my feet into the shoes.

Side track abit here. Is there a site that consolidates gmtos with Carmina (like the meermin subsite)? I found a few open gmtos on skoaktiebolaget but the selection is awfully small and sifting through the myraid posts on SF is maddening to say the least. I'm salivating over the epaulet x carmina salinger double monk in burgundy shell cordovan and I'm looking to see if there's a gmto open for something similar or heck start one if i can't find it.

I totally agree with your point. Mine is full brogue and black, and the only shoes that I wear in both formal and street settings!

I think it's not whether how hard it is to wear the shoes since you can always loosen the laces, but do you feel comfortable wearing it while walking?

I think it's totally fine to spend a bit more time to loosen your laces everyday to get a pair of fit shoes. For menswear, fitting must be the #1 reason!

The fit is excellent! Even better the than my recent ed's flyer 2 loafer, which I've been wearing quite a few times.

I think e width suits me more!

I tried putting the shoe on with the lace removed, it's still pretty hard.
I'll get myself a shoe horn and see how it goes.

Do you usually sit down and wear your shoe? If not get the uber long shoe horn. (can get 1 quite cheap from Tangs) It'll be super easy to wear once you have that.

I even bought a shorter one to keep in my bag when i went out visiting over the CNY break. Lol, abit overkill
