Hi Guys,

Im new to TV Box. Heard that Xiaomi is good. So i made a research and I realise there is 5th Gen and 6th Gen Tv Box.. Also there is Xiaomi TV Box Mini???

Since Im new to it, I can't seems to find out whats the actual difference of the TV Box and Mini.

I know price wise Mini will be cheaper, smaller size, specs not as good. But most impt, is the interface, channels and apps inside the both of them same??
Would love to know this and also to hear what is the best recommendation.

Thank you! :)

if you really have no clue on gadgets, better don't buy xiaomi. buy minix tv box instead.

Can share why Minix is better than Xiaomi? The new Xiaomi box 3 enhanced 2016 has 2GB RAM and 8GB memory. Wouldn't it be on par with the Minix box now?

It is not about which one is better, for you and me, even the old mibox like 1st gen, 2nd gen and 3rd gen, are very good box with very attractive price.

But I have seem many people struggling with mibox, especially those who are not familiar with gadget.

I find previous generations mibox with 4 GB storage for apps presented problems when kodi addons are installed.
The set's cache and accumulated rubbish files then constantly needs to be cleaned else the set hangs. For the novice this is a problem. If kodi addons are not installed, then set is pretty good.

However the new generation mibox with 2GB ram and 8 GB storage at $129 should solve the above problem arising due to memory shortage

There are cheaper sellers on qoo10 for the new xiaomi box than this $129 seller. Please dont support sellers who enforce compulsory option price on buyers. Also its a joke for this seller to claim the mi remote is a "gift" when its included by default with every mibox set.

So I guess the disadvantage of the old Mi box is the 4GB storage? We should look for minimum 8GB storage and 1GB ram for the apps to run smoothly?

Yes, I also have a $47 MxQ which is 1GB ram and 8GB storage. It works very much better than my Xiaomi 1GB ram 4 GB storage when kodi installed in both.

For streaming, 1GB ram works fine.
You can Google and find that there is no disasvantage vs 2 GB ram for streaming.

The mxq also has all kodi addons already installed and added. It is very very easy to use. Buy, plug and play. And super reliable for a $50 TV box

If you look at the handphone, you can see that ram usage goes up when you have more than 1 app opened.
So in a TV box, when you are say watching a streaming movie or a live stream of a soccer game, you are only using essentially 1 app. for which 1 GB of ram is sufficient. it's unlike a hphone where the phone slows down BEC a few apps are using ram memory at the same time .

Ok you are right. I was not suggesting getting this box from this seller. I just quoted the price to identify the new box.

I agree you can get the box cheaper without his compulsory addons.

But sometimes for less tech savvy users his box is convenient. Otherwise these less technically inclined people will need yr help to install this and that. On top of getting the box for them and taking responsibility when there is a problem with box (though rare) .
For say $30 or $40 more, if the buyer agrees, I think its alright and very convenient for everybody

This is not entirely true. Sure, 1gb ram is sufficient for simple streaming purposes, but it never hurts to have more ram in the box especially if you install alot of these china streaming apps which are poorly coded and will continue to reside in memory even if you task kill them. App force close or restarts will occur when you run low on memory. Case in point, i am currently using a minix x5 with just 1gb ram and i am consistently running at 50-60% ram load even when the box is idling. My kodi crashes frequently when i start to run low on ram. Another thing worth noting is that the cost of 2gb ram boxes are getting ever cheaper. A s805 based MXQ box costs $40+ and comes with 1gb ram and no built-in bluetooth module. A s812 based M8S box with 2gb ram and built-in bluetooth costs $59.90. I think its worth forking out the extra $20 to get better hardware.

Precisely the point being made in one of the posts above about mibox being not a good choice for total noobs or less savy users. Lack of a default english interface for the mitv UI is the sore point. Would this be a good box for people who dont comprehend chinese one single bit? Side by side, a mibox is not as user friendly or clearcut as something like a minix.

For the two 1 GB ram MXQs I have, with kodi addons and also plenty of China apps, I have not experience any kodi crashing before. I have used them for about 6 months.

But $20 more for a $50 TV box is actually 40% more. And if the $50 box doesn't crash (like the 2 MXQ I am using), then perhaps not necessary to buy the 2 GB ram box with S812 chip.
Also there are reports that the tried and tested S805 used with the 1GB ram Mxq box is actually more stable than the newer S812.
S812 only advantage over the S805 is it supports 4k video. S805 has a lower power consumption than the S812.

Perhaps I digress. This is Xiaomi thread. I will stop here
