Here's how you can do it
1. Go into Shafa Market
2. Go into Search
3. Type out 'Youtube' in full
You should see the youtube app for installation.

Don't have to root. Certain apps is meant for china only, that's why you got the message.

You can change the dns to unblock these apps.

or you also can install other apps that don't have the geo-blocks.

For starters, the mi box 4k running android tv 6.0 has not even starting selling yet in international market. Next, it may not be as simple a case as porting out the firmware from 1 box and then flashing it onto another for it to work. If anything, you can be sure xiaomi themselves wont bother to release any port or firmware to upgrade the older miboxes to android tv 6.0.

No there isnt. Prior to this mibox 4k launching in the US, all the older mibox models are made for and launched for china domestic market only, thus the lack of google playstore/services and english interface. Xiaomi's aftersale support for miboxes are practically non-existent and they dont even bother to release any kind of stock rom for recovery purposes. Maybe if the interest and sales for the upcoming mibox 4k is good, we may see some stock or modified english rom being released. But that is a VERY BIG IF and i am not depending on it.

If you need Instant TV no choice have to use youtube and ultimately google service and playstore along the way. It's a b**** rooting the xiaomi and most of the online instructions dun work. I am open to any easier option (apart from getting one from Amazon).

I get what you mean. Miboxes are a pain in the rear to use and not recommended for people who are novices to tv boxes and dont have the technical know-how to troubleshoot when issue arises. I own a mibox 3 enhanced and its great value for the hardware specs but on the software side, its a great failure. The mitv UI is crap and there are many small bugs and issues which xiaomi dont bother to fix. Rooting and installing google services and playstore isnt that easy at all so i just gave up on the idea of doing. Now i am running into alot of software issues with box which factory resetting does not solve. The last step i can try is to reflash the rom but there isnt any stock rom file to be found on the internet.

If you die die want a box running on android tv OS, i say you just cough up the dough and get a set of nvidia shield android tv box. All these el cheapo china android boxes just dont cut it for one reason or another.

手机360 is a few root that works but yeah hiccups. Getting settings (baby face) in on top of default settings is also confusing. I think just allow unknown sources is a better way to install your apk. Install youtube but dun use and aptoide to replace playstore.

It is true that most of the online instructions dun work, but there is a set of working instructions for rooting of mibox, right at your door step.

Yup 360 is one of the few working ones which I did.
