2nd gen is classified as 1S under settings. Mibox 2 is for easy calling as there is no fixed technical name. So for rooting, firmware and apps goto be cautious which version to download.

Long time no use xiaomi, now notice all the tvb dramas are removed! And movies added in a lot of US movies but a lot of hong kong movies were removed.... Also sohu server is so slow, that it is no point even watching their videos.

The point is? Better root xiaomi now. :D

xiaomi box 3 can root to get xbmc?

Below applies to Xiaomi Box 3 only:

1) You do not need root to install XBMC. It will play up to 720p without issue
2) If you root Xiaomi Box 3, you will be a able to change permission on some system drivers which will allow XBMC to better hardware decode the media files. ie. 1080p will play smoothly.

If you just want to play with the add-ons, I believe no rooting is ok.

Could be weak wifi signal. Did you try testing your connection speed with xiaomi built in testing tool? It's under settings. You can try to pause the play for awhile and let it buffer.
