i also thought so. But I think it depends on your needs. Mine is a original stock firmware box. For now, I installed Kodi, HDPTV, Togic, and Shafa (actually I will rarely use shafa I think), and I feel more than enough for me. Since I seldom watch streaming, the original xiaomi player and Kodi are sufficient. HDPTV and Togic are just for me to try out.

As of now, no rooting nothing for me to do.

Maybe, I need to find stream source to watch live football on Kodi or other app.

My main purpose is just to watch HK drama through Youku.

No root need. Jus download the apks to sdcard. Install from sdcard. That's all. Dl Shafa apk. Find youku apk in Shafa. Dl n install the cracked ver.

I think Shafa market is really good. Can download the
1. soccer app (光芒体育)
2. XBMC
3. YoukuXL(Which I assume is the 'right' Youku to use)

That's all I'm using now.

Sorry if this has been asked before but trying to figure this out as seller gave me ambiguous answer on Qoo10 - if I get the 3rd (or 4th) gen Xiaomi TV Box, will it be able to connect via wii (with no other accesories/purchased required) to my DLNA server (i.e. my USB hard drive plugged into my D-Link DIR-868 wireless router)?

This is the one I'm looking at since it seems reasonably priced even if I get the "Premium" pack: Qoo10 - LOCAL SELLER 3rd Gen Latest Version Xiaomi TV Box Free HK Movie : TV, Camera & Audio

I don't quite understand your intention:

Connect via wii to your DLNA server? Isn't wii another device(game console), Or did you mean connect via wifi?

To connect to DLNA server from the mi box, it's more of a software thing and not hw, you can see lots of DLNA player apps for androids to download from.

There's a default system app called Video Player which is a file manager with DLNA support which you can use as well.

For some who wants a more elegant feel prefer other DLNA player apps. For me, I'm running Plex Media Server in my local network from a Mac mini and use the Plex App on the Mi Box to stream from it.

There's a popular app called Kodi or XBMC which also does DLNA and much more but you need to know how to set it up.

as long ur mibox is in the same network as ur dlna server, should not be a problem connecting. but the performance during streaming will depends on ur wifi liao.

actually, for apk installation, i did not use any microsd card. i only out those apk inside my NAS. on mibox, i use the stock 高清播放器 to navigate to the folder on my nas, when click on the apk file, it will actually start the installation. this is really very convenient because i only need to download apk on my pc, then copy them to my nas using the pc.

For those selling in Qoo10, do we really need to pay for yearly subscription fee to stream TV channel? Quite confused meh. Thought after cracked can stream LiveTV channel?

Qoo10 - LOCAL SELLER 3rd Gen Latest Version Xiaomi TV Box Free HK Movie : TV, Camera & Audio

subscription are usually for IPTV channels which are more extensive. kinda like paying for a cable tv service from a local provider but at a cheaper rate.

However this IPTV services may not provide the best performance as the server is maintained by the IPTV provider. any issues, you need to contact them to fix.

those free/cracked apps are usually for on demand viewing.

its stock mi box 3. you dont need any crack, jailbreak or root to watch free content. just need to install shafa app (google for it) and install the the 电视必备. there will be a list of cracked apps to download from there.

the one from qoo10 so called cracked version is they help you preload all the apps and change the ui to english etc.. not worth the extra money imo.

hello everyone, i've decided to purchase the mibox and considering that rakuten is having a promo, i would let to get it asap! However, have some queries, hope you guys can help me :)

1. Is the football stream from 光芒体育 clear? because this is the main reason i'm getting the box, except watching HK drama, so if the quality is nowhere better than the stream i'm watching on websites, I guess i don't need it.

2. What is the OTG cable used for? do I need a OTG cable to transfer apk to my mibox or can I just plug in my thumbdrive in the usb slot?

Thanks in advance :)

1. on Tv , it is better than starhub SD channels, slightly worse than hd channels.

2. It has one USB and one OTG port, so it may not be necessary to get OTG cable. Just plug thumbdrive in USB port
