Did a walking trail to a village that was interspersed with vegetations.

Sunlight was particularly strong, perfect for some macro photo-taking.

Super macro has useful working distance, at 140mm probably about 10+ - 15cm.

On auto, XM seems to have a tendency to veer towards warmer colors in macro.

Since u cannot have effective flash, the shutter speed understandably drops to a point alot images can be blur from motion. Best to shoot in good light.

Also effective aperture drops at macro levels so lighting takes a penalty hit, hence shoot in good light.

The autofocus is slightly slow but nice to have.

Some odd shaped insects the autofocus cannot seem to recognize.

I cannot seem to find focus peaking, which will increase hit rates and let me know if I have past the minimum focusing distance. There is much glare under sunlight and depending on your angle it may not be easy to see if small critters are in focus.

All in all, awesome camera system, didn't expect macro to perform at this level.

( The only thing left is a way to trigger external flash )

thanks for sharing ... there dont seems to be much insects marco samples online to compare with the vivo one.

i see that you were using zooms for most of the insects ... is it because at no zoom , the 10cm focusing distance is too far to capture anything usable ?

Not sure if it answers your question but In general

- macro at longer focal lengths eg 140mm in this case gives longer working distances.

- it is easier to take a picture of a jumping spider from 10cm vs e.g.1cm. If can achieve the same magnification from 30cm even better!

- working distance gets way too close, the light starts to become a problem.

- as a side note it is not helpful smartphone makers do not mention magnification ratios, I suspect there is a good deal of pseudo digital cropping going on, I might be wrong.

I am not sure about vivo.

Turn off the Ai .. it will try to guess what the subject and then try to optimize it for you. You are way above it already.

Focus peaking is in the pro mode.

Gaudi's natural organic designs were simply amazing..didn't notice the snail shell design of the tower stairs until we went thru the exhibit and saw this pic I took earlier

Nice shot, I have a similar shot too taken on 13U (no watermark as I disabled it during my trip in 2023). Am thinking to upgrade to 15U

Oh very nice! We usually add the water mark after. U can do that in the editor as @rrr2015 mentioned in an earlier post.

As a former 13U owner...the 15U is a worthy upgrade, especially if one uses the photography kit during travels. The new photog kit is so much more useable.

XM has leveled up alot esp if upgrading from the 13.

Yeah am a casual/newbie at this. I found the watermark in the editor, added in the watermark. Thanks for the info.

Yeah I also find that it is a worthy upgrade. Wanted to get today but heard the Redmi pad free gift is fully redeemed??? Saw on bili-bili reviews there are plenty of creators saying 15 Ultra isn't as good a Vivo X200 Pro especially in night /low light conditions, and are pretty similar while in day time. But then Vivo X200 Pro/Ultra isn't available in SG. Thus can't have official repair service if get a lemon. Go XM15U then.

How is the photography kit of 15U? I didn't get the kit for 13U as I find it quite a hassle to bring around.

*Adding the watermark really changes the feel of the photo lol, and I didn't know there are various frames to choose from too wow.

very nice pics! I like using the watermarks for some of the meta-data info at times.

As @rrr2015 mentioned - check out the editor features; some of the new AI stuff are pretty impressive - the erasure and expanding a photo features has taken over Google Photos/Pixel IMO. (waiting for @RyanJ to confirm as I started with the Nexus and stopped at Pixel 3-ish)

As for the photog kit - the additional battery and ability customizable buttons are really helpful - plus i will use the filters for my road trips (usually scenic locations). So all-in-all..its my SLR-replacement.

I have no idea on the Vivo as overall, the XM has all the features i need; dual sim, e-sim, dual apps...all rounder with a camera focus (me being amatuer hobbyist). its up to individual needs I guess.

if u can pick one up cheaper in JB or TW etc..can skip the tablet. 2 yrs intl warranty..rocks.

It is by the glamping place we stayed in Fujikawaguchiko. Called Granfarm Fujikawaguchiko

Yeah I really like to stay in the xiaomi ecosystem. I have a number of Xiaomi IoT around my house too. Just a bit tempted to see what others had to offer haha. But yeah, XM phone has all the stuff I want. The e-sim being one of the factors I want an upgrade (and camera too being a big factor). 13 Ultra doesn't even have e-sim capability.
