took a few look at the Mi5 at Sim Lim
Aesthetically it is what I want ... win over S7, G5 and of course Sony
and specs wise everybody similar so the look and feel is the deciding factor
unfortunately it is still not sold by XiaoMi SG yet ..:(

I'll stick to the Chinese variant unless I have proof that the international models support concurrent 4G/3G-voice.

So far, I've asked this question on Xiaomi India and XDA-Developer forums and have received no positive confirmation.

Look closer and you will find a differetn. For example. Mi5 vs S7.
1. NFC is different.
2. Dual pixes camera on s7 v standard one on Mi5.
3. Wireless charging on s7 vs Ni5 - none
4. Display resolution between the 2 model.
Need not to say a big down on Miui.

Only plus side I can see now on Mi5 is 4G+3G on dual sim slot. But this is yet to confirm if its works on Global rom.

if my needs are basic voice, msg, web, movies, songs and camera
1,3&4 are good to have but not a must have.. though I do hope it has QHD screen. As for camera, any idea is it much better? for the price difference, not sure ... unless Mi5 price can go lower :s8:

Latest Chinese ROM 7.2.13.0 seems to have gotten most things right. IMO, its an improvement over 7.2.12.0. Anyone else using the latest Chinese ROM?

May be Note 3 is a better choice in this case, unless one required 4G+3G.

For your usage, Mi5 should be sufficient. The S7 has the better sensor and imaging quality overall but the Mi5 is still pretty good on it's own as well. I'm currently using both the Mi5 and S7 edge and both of them can snap really nice photos. The Mi5 is a great device especially if you factor in the price which easily costs half of the S7/S7e. :)

Am currently still on 7.2.12.0, yet to receive the ota update for 7.2.13.0. What changes/improvements are there in the latest fw?

Yup2, if dual sim functionality is the utmost priority then Mi5 is one of the only best few options right now. For S7 the good thing is the 2nd slot can still be used for microSD. :)

Widget screen updates lags when i'm on 7.2.12.0 but this problem seems to have been resolved with 7.2.13.0. Optimised system performance is mentioned in whats new for 7.2.13.0

Oh I see, thanks. Did you experienced whatsapp notifications not coming through previously on 7.2.12.0?

If u encountered missing notifications, do the following:

1) Add whatsapp to the list of apps with unrestricted background and network access

OR

2) Turn OFF Power Saving Mode

3) Within the Security App under Permissions/Autostart, add Whatsapp to the list.

Applies to any other apps that u are not getting notifications on time.
