I also do not advise to buy a new Mi 5 due to this is a 2yr old model. You may consider other newer and better model for the same price.

On the side note, to explain on performance degradation, this is observed in recent MIUI 9 rom and free ram is always <1gb in my basic 3gb model. Update to trial MIUI 10 show improvement with much smoother interface, free ram at ~1.3G. Thus, do look out for MIUI 10 update.

Really hoping MIUI 10 solves current issues. How's the battery life on MIUI 10 compared to MIUI 9?

No noticeable difference in battery life. My Mi 5 is more than 2yr old and battery was changed earlier this yr.

For MIUI 10, I'm using china developer rom for the past 2 weeks. Stability have improved in this week update. If you're keen, can register for Global MIUI 10 trial in en.miui.com.

Most likely cable problem.
A worn cable may not correctly work for quick charge.
I use a usb meter and sometimes see that my old cable is getting less reliable ...

Yup same here. No major changes spotted just yet. Changelog writes full screen gestures but cannot find option.

Have been running AccuBattery for one month. Battery health stands at 91%. Battery life still isn't very good despite 2 updates being pushed out (9.5.3 and 9.5.5). Can't pinpoint to any app causing significant battery drain. Phone just hit 1.5 years, bought the phone in Dec 2016, should I just get the battery replaced or is it really just software acting up? I do intend to keep the phone for longer.

Gotten Stable Oreo build V9.6.1.0.OAAMIFD. Updating now, will monitor...

Been running the new stable Oreo build. Performance wise, similar to previous Nougat builds, some stutters here and there, no biggie. Battery life still the same. One thing the update broke is LED notification light not working for WhatsApp notifications now.

Waiting for stable MIUI 10 update to drop, surprised they pushed out this Oreo update to be honest.
