Go download the freeware, 7-Zip.

Then, right click the tgz file and choose open with 7-zip.

From there, within the 7-Zip, you can do all the unzip, extraction and copy functions.

the dowload link you provided for miui 8 is a .tar extension file, it is not a tgz extension file. Anyway, i used 7-zip to unzip the .tar file and only found 1 file (same resut usinf Peazip). the file after unzip cannot be detected by Miflash.

i guess i will just stick to miui7 for the time being.

Ok, after following your instructions and trying here and there, it is now in progress flashing. It seems the flashing is quite slow. It has been already 15 minutes, not sure I am doing it correctly. Btw, I am using surface 3, slower processor.

Any thicker than thin tpu, defeat the slimness of miMax, thus harder to hold. Cheap phone minimal protection lah.

You will get the OTA Beta updates all the way to the official MIUI8 updates when it is released by end of August.

See how it goes (been a samsung note users since it launch), battery for now (ever since gotten mi max) is the concern as i ditch my power bank liaoz lol.

Now only have to factor in the rest of advantage and disadvantages.... anyway if get samsung also recontract but will get the non edge version if it ever reaches sg shore. Seriously i never like edge phones.

Ya, i understand that will happen if getting non contract phone.

For my case, if i want to get, it will be under recontract. Base on past recontract, it works out almost same when i bought my mi max 64gb set.

Anyway see how it goes, i hate carrying the heavy 30,000mah power bank around....

That's not correct... Imagine you signing contract for note 7 & sell it off & use the profit to get mimax 128gb (assuming you don't have one yet). You will still have hundreds of dollars cash. Free phone + money to offset your few months of phone bill. The price difference is still there regardless of contract or non contract.
