HI

I have a 3GB / 64 GB Mi Max with Simder Rom 7.3.14

I tried to upgrade to MIUI 8 - but not able too do so

I think the qualcom drivers are causing me this issue

When I use the XiaomiFlash program, my phone is not showing - I get a blank even after refreshing

I tried all the tips /tricks found on XiaomMi Forums + Google - still not able to upgrade

Any one can help?
Bro ur pc is on Windows 7? I was also on the same version as u.. I upgraded using dg method without any problems.. My PC is windows 7 and I dun have problem detecting the phone

For the benefit of those considering purchasing a china/local/india set.

Could owners of india export set or local set share if they have the same hassle as me (china set from taobao)...

1. Google Playstore and Google service needed to be installed. Quite a hassle as you cannot just download the apk and install it ( waste of 1hrs before you realize it doesn't work when adding google account fail, after factory reset a few times before giving up). You have to download an installer (1hrs to find and determine the correct choice...) created by someone on the miui forum, make sure that your computer have ADB support drivers ( an 1hr hassle of searching and making sure it work). Reasonably it should take around 3hrs to get Google Playstore working. And you will have more hours of fun adjusting permissions to figure out which are the necessary ones because miui does not play nice with google services.

2. When I am done with Google Playstore and Services, I finally got down to transfer music files from my PC to the phone. Another few hours of hassle getting usb file transfer to work because the phone decided I wasn't going to be in file transfer mode by default. Had to figure out how to change usb connection settings hidden deep in settings.

3. I realized I wasn't getting whatsapp notifications immediately. Whatsapp calls to me was not getting thru... Had to spend more hours figuring out I needed to change permissions, getting the app to autostart AND I had to figure out that I could lock the app in task manager zzz...

Actually not so difficult1 and 2. If your phone is China rom. You should have Mi market. Go to Mi market and search Google play store. Think it will bring you to a dite to download and install the required apk. At lease that was what I found out on previos Redmi Note 2.

However, using apk installation does not means the next Miui upgrade is safe. Google play may failed and ypu have to redo again. So safe way is to go Global rom.

3. Just lock the whatsapp via task, down seip the whatsapp icon. Not perfect but work most of the time.

This is mainly Miui issues.

For point 1, i used a zip file uploaded in the miui forum and it is working. Should be the same as the 1 you are using.

Anyway why dun flash to global rom? It's easier to setup your Google apps.

Yup should be same file.
1. Because didn't expect all the settings and permissions problem... :(
2. No global rom for 128GB Mi Max I believe? Plus see (1).

I also thought just install apk can liao because that worked for Mi Note which I owned. I did went to Mi Market to search for google playstore when I got the Mi Max, nothing. Had to jump thru loops. Either inject Google Market and Services with script program via USB or has to switch to global rom... As you can see, cscs also had to do the same. I am sure he would have tried the Mi Market first just as I did.

Exactly why I posted to verify the differences between the local, india and china sets. So that people are aware of the differences and the effort needed to get things working smoothly.

Correction. There is global rom for 64/128gb already.

My 64gb is already on global rom.

What set did you buy exactly? My impression is that the differences have been more than well-established in this thread:

A: Local set - Global ROM, playstore and google apps installed
B: India set - Global ROM, playstore and google apps installed
C*: China Set - Global ROM (installed by seller), playstore and google apps installed
D: China Set - China ROM, you're on your own, either reflash to global or manual install playstore and google apps

The general advice to ppl has been to buy A-C if they don't know or don't want to reflash themselves.

*For C, please note the recommended sellers who flash with proper global ROM, to avoid sellers that may give you modified china ROM, then you would be receiving D instead.

Hi all

The default setting holds 4 icons per row. How to add to 5 per row since the screen is enough to hold more.

Actually for fuss free, a and b only better.

C for some dealer they might load with modified rom. Not recommended.

Good point! I included C as a valid option cos here there are at least 1-2 recommendations of sellers that have consistently sent out sets flashed with proper global rom, so to me that's still a valid fuss-free option. But yes, A and ultimate no-need-to-worry kiasee package with local warranty, with B coming in second :D

Why i wary about c is coz my 2 sets are not on official rom.

1st simder set comes with modified global ROM, my 2nd set comes with modified China rom with gapps.
