Just gotten my Mipad. Impressed with it. Loving the 4:3 form factor, which is great for my ebooks and magazines!

Now my problem is I have too much to read!

Any other features that impressed you so much? And would you mind telling me how much it costs you? Thanks.

Maybe you PM me if you want to know about the deal? Not sure what's the norm here regarding this.

PROS/NEUTRAL:

Anyway, I came from a Nexus 7 2013. The screen of the Mi Pad is fantastic, I compared it to my friends Retina Macbook Pro, we both agreed that it is similar. At less than $400 all in, no complaints here.

I do a lot of reading on this. So the 4:3 ratio of the screen works very well for me. PDF ebooks, Straits Times online etc. I use Mantano Reader Premium for ebooks.

MicroSD card slot. Unlimited expansion.

The sound emitting from the speaker is very loud, it works for me. But I'm no audiophile.

Do not game on this, but the few games I have installed works very well. Nothing taxing on the gfx, World of Goo, Rymdkapsel, Thomas was Alone etc.

MIUI looks pretty good. I like the way how it handles "moving apps". You pinch on the screen, and there is a "move apps" function, tab on the apps you want to move, and swipe to the page u want it settled, then tab on the app. Very intuitive. However, traces of chinese text will appear, even if you set as English (chinese text at installing programs)

CONS:

Weight is slightly on the heavier side, of course it cannot compare to my Kindle Paperwhite. It's not that heavy, but I will prefer to leave it on a table or my lap if I'm using it for a long time.

But I feel it is not a idiot friendly device. You might need to have a more techie friend set up. For example, my mum will pass it to me to do certain things.

For example, Google play is not installed on the device. Have to go to Mi Market to install a 3rd party loader app. Google for instructions.

After installing Play Store, not all apps can install from the store. Apps such as Instagram, Carousell, have to sideload to install the apk. This can be a hassle if wanna update.

Likewise for Amazon Appstore, some apps will appear on my Xperia Z, but not on Mi Pad.

IN SUMMARY

For its price, I think it is a very good buy. It looks like an iPad mini, but it is not, but a very close competitor. Especially for those who prefer Android over iOS.

However, I would advise people to get the 64gb if money is not an issue. Android 4.4.4 (the one on the Mi Pad), doesn't seems to allow non-stock apps to edit/rename files on the SD card. Not a major issue, it is a hinderance though. So 64gb will be good if you are heavy into media.

I have not root this, though I have read somewhere that rooting can partially solve this "non-editable" issue

:)

I have the green color 64GB.
yellow and white can skip the rest can give a try IMO.
Also best is get the glass screen protector and smart cover from xiaomi direct. And also remember to flash it to developer rom as the stable rom don't have update frequently.

Yes but it means coming out with custom rom like handphone which also takes time right?

Local set handphone rom is custom make. SG version.

Wait for local set. Guess should be here soon.
Btw. I think it is on Andriod with Miui. Never like this combination as Miui has lots of bugs and poor memory management.
