crap man, regret buying this china export phone from lazada. it has so many software problems.

i could have gotten a decent problem free samsung contractless phone tat i like for $200 more @ challenger instead.

so now im following this guide to flash global rom. idk if im doing it correctly...

http://en.miui.com/thread-307744-1-1.html

method 1 and method 2 wont work on my phone. so i can only use method 3, which is fastboot method.

Permission granted for me to unlock my hp

so now im stuck at the bolded part:

Question 1: my hp cannot enter bootloader mode, despite me pressing the volume down and power buttons at the same time...

Question 2: what's the difference between MTK and qualcomm? mine's a snapdragon 650 1.80 ghz 6 cores whatever this means...

I'm not sure has anyone suggested to you.

You can use EDL mode method instead of Fastboot mode method to flash rom if you have problem entering into the Fastboot mode. :)

Refer to the link below on how to use EDL mode to flash a rom.

Why didn't u buy local set in the 1st place?

Have u downloaded the MIUI unlock tool for ur PC? Difference between 650 and mtk is the processor. 650 has official global ROM but mtk does not. Yours is the 650. Don't flash the wrong one. I can't see the pictures u posted maybe due to GAGT.

i paid $200 for the 3/32 export set all in inclusive of GST and delivery...

if u you unlock the bootloader... fastboot method is preferred.
to enter fastboot:
1) power off the phone
2) press volume - and power button together and hold both until the fastboot screen comes on.

then just use miflash with the fastboot package.

FYI for the physical phone, totally no diff if china set or local set.. except for warranty. for the software.. it up to your computer literacy skills...

for those that hates and pukes at the sight of miui... and adores the stock android experience that AOSP brings...
My recommendations
1) AOSP marshmallow qualcomm factory rom + gapps FULL package + supersu 2.78
super stable, 4G+3G works, everything works except remote control functionality. Only caveat is that there is no option to customise the capacitive buttons and long press functionality.

2) if you have this a backup phone or experimentation. Add xposed + google assistant module. and you get near pixel phone experience ( OK google voice command not working yet). xposed introduce quite a bit of weirdness to the phone. This option is purely experimental!

I just installed Nova Launcher on mine. Didn't want to flash here and there with bugs :D. Previously using nightly on my phone but too many issues.

Aiya, don't need to unlock. Easiest way to flash is via EDL mode. Follow the thread on EDL can already. The process is really chickenfeet.

Using Xiaomi phones, honestly only MIUI roms offer the best screen on time. Custom roms can never achieve a better SOT then MIUI roms. Tried and proven long ago already. Only use custom if you die die need those special features of the rom otherwise, MIUI rom is more then sufficient for most users.

In fact, features like Mi Drop all these, who the heck even use it daily? Only use once then forgotten liao.

Enter EDL: http://en.miui.com/thread-290959-1-1.html

wah... heard 7 early 8 early got fight sia... where where???

imho... the only thing good about this phone is price.... everything else is flawed... lcd blackness level beside an iPhone looks like crap. camera is crap when not in bright sunlight. No security to speak of... even when bootloader is locked, you can easily access data partition with a custom bootloader through EDL mode.

so why fight over a crappy phone? at least the pixel and iPhone fanboys got their priority right.... LOL

let the fight begin.....

oh.. the headphone audio is crap as well.
in the stock stable and developer's MIUI rom, RX HPH Mode is on LP and not HIFI. if set to HIFI, it picks up a lot of static noise... very poor engineering!!
