sadly u will need to root so u can do that.

I'm not sure about the price of the spare part but given the current price, it's not worth to fix it unless DIY.

Chey, ask him to buy new one . Seriously, the Note 4x is really value for money for people that are not too concern with the camera. Even then, it can be largely improved by using Google cam with camer2api enabled.
