Anyone rooted this phone?

Is it possible to root the phone, do some tweaks then unroot the phone again and keep the data without having to flash rom to factory reset the phone?

Is Helios 3gb/64gb at $186 a good buy? I see several comments that sd 625 version is better, but around 170-180 only have 3gb/32gb currently.

unless you really need the app storage space, just buy a bigger sd card and get the sd625 version. better battery life, lower temps and when xiaomi stops supporting it u can go custom rom for android 8

Well Helios chip have its good and bad which is same as SD 625, but overall usage SD 625 fair better.

this in terms of power efficiency and battery lasting at least a day needs.

mtk is android 6. likely to never have an update or custom rom support.

sucks. So its the same as Redmi Note 4 MTK too... :(
4X fellow, be careful before u upgrade to miui9. U are likely not getting the full miui9...

Let me attempt to clear up the confusion.

Redmi Note 4 (Global Version, local set with one year official Xiaomi warranty) is always SD625. This set also has slightly more LTE bands which are targeted for the SG market.

Redmi Note 4X (China Version, export set) comes in both variants; MTK and SD625. Always get the SD625 version. Also, most local resellers reflash it with the Global ROM, which is preferred for most people.

Hardware-wise, the Redmi Note 4 Global Version, and the Redmi Note 4X SD625 version, are identical. Once the latter is flashed with the Global ROM, the software is identical too. Therefore, there is no difference between the Redmi Note 4 Global Version and Redmi Note 4X SD625 version with Global ROM, other than the fact that the former has one year official Xiaomi local warranty.

Separately, you then have the different RAM/ROM capacities. 3GB RAM / 32GB ROM is sufficient for most people. Some who have the 4GB RAM / 64GB ROM version expressed disappointment that it isn't a lot faster. That is actually to be expected, as Android OS is rather good at multi-tasking and task switching as long as you are not playing a lot of graphic and CPU intensive games, and 3GB RAM is more than enough for most people.

i though note 4x is meant to be a SD version?
China's Redmi Note 4X
Redmi Note 4X (3GB+16GB): SD625
Redmi Note 4X (3GB+32GB): SD625
Redmi Note 4X (4GB+64GB, Light Blue): SD625
Redmi Note 4X (4GB+64GB, Black, Gold, Pink): MTK Helio X20

Hi to all who's used this phone regularly. Doing some research on this phone for my mum, who primarily uses casual games and messaging apps.

Any lagginess to be concerned about? Any battery issues during regular use?
Connectivity issues (usb port doesn't detect pc, dropping internet connection, etc)?

Any reason I should spend another ~$100 to move up a level? Currently considering this and the Zenfone 4, but the loaded bloatware turns me off.

Thank you for your help! Or if I should be looking at other phones, do let me know too!
