does the global version mivt with android tv comes with vp9 that plays 4k video?

There is no information about MiTVs' A53 or A55 processors having VP9 codings.

However, RaptureM3 said his Global TV just received can play YouTube at 4K resolution. May be it was playing Youtube video in 4K H264 format and not in VP9 format.

Btw i have 3 ports on the Mi 55".

HDMI 1 (normal)
HDMI 2 (ARC)
HDMI 3 (normal)

I plugged my Mi Box S into HDMI 2 (ARC). Is this correct? Any difference whether i use an ARC or non-ARC HDMI port?

ARC stands for Audio Return Channel. The HDMI ARC port is the only port that can send audio sound from TV to sound bar or audio receiver using HDMI cable. The port can also be used for any other types of HDMI devices

According to this Russian Website in Mi community. It appears that the Russian set has VP9. Can anyone confirm?

You need to set the settings inside mi box the resolution to 4k. Don’t set in the default patchwall/android.

Go into mibox s then TOP right (I think) got the gear thingy, go inside change the resolution. I can’t recall the exact steps.

I suspect your YouTube 4k is watch through mibox s and you selected a resolution in YouTube to play 4k. This is being upscale to 4k in the 1920*1080 resolution setting in mibox s. You are not viewing native 4k unless you change the resolution setting in mibox s. Correct me if I’m wrong...

Wow, thanks all for the prompt replies!

Been reading throughThis link:

https://www.lazada.sg/products/digi...html?spm=spm=a2o42.order_details.item_title.1

Listed now for $629 tho. 12.12 flash sales went down to $479.

2Gb/8Gb

Model number L55M5-5ARU.

Not sure what is A55/A53 sorry, where to check?

The TV is Android TV 9. Even the Global (Android) sets come with Patchwall.

Let me know if anymore questions!

P.S. TV so far so good, can't complain for $479!

P.P.S. Figuring out why my Netflix doesn't display 4k titles..... I am playing through Mi Box S, have a 1Gb connection, and a 4k TV, but still only playing in HD (1080p). YouTube is OK for 4k videos though.

I think it should be correct since it is running Google Certified Android TV OS, so must support Chromecast and VP9.

But not necessarily Netflix 4K since that needs Netflix certification.

Hey man, can let us know which seller from Lazada?
Also, is it A55 or A53?
2gb/8gb configuration or 1gb/8gb configuration?
Yours come with patchwall instead of android?

Bro, just installed the software to check, TV is running an A55 chip. Also 2Gb/8Gb.

Took photos of the CPU page as well as System page for those who are wondering about the specs.

Just tried this, there are a few 4k settings in the Mi Box S. 4k-20hz, 4k-25hz, 4k-30hz, and 4k-stpe. I set it to 4k-30hz to try. Must restart the box thereafter.

Funny thing though, Netflix now shows the 4k titles as "HDR" instead of the usual "HD". Shouldn't it show "4K" or "UHD" instead?

The new Indian models are now all running Android TV OS but not all of them are having VP9. For the MiTV 4X, only the 55" has VP9 for some reasons, the rest, the 65", 50" and 43" do not have VP9.

https://www.mi.com/in/mi-tv-4x-65/

VP9 decoders will need a Google's license to be incorporated in the SOC chips.

Yes to the last sentence.

But strange that these TVs run Android TV OS and apparently if is certified because of the support for Chromecast.

So looks like Google may loose the control on the support of VP9 on Android TV OS.

For those certified Android TV boxes from Mecool (not Netflix certified), they do support VP9 and 4K YouTube. They use Amlogic S905X/S905X2 and these CPUs support VP9.

Mi Box S (Google and Netflix certified) uses S905X with VP9 support while the China version of Mi Box 4 uses S905L without VP9 support.

Set to 4k 60 hz. Netflix can only run 60hz.

Only Amlogic S905x/S905X2, S905Y2, 922X, S905D , S912 have VP9 decoders. The other Amlogic, like T966, T968,T962,T950, T920L used in many MiTV does not have VP9. That is why I was wondering how Global MiTV can play VP9 videos unless the new MiTV chip A55 has S905X3 with VP9 built-in.

Yes T9xx TV Processors do not have VP9 decoders and yet some of them do running certified Google Android TV.

I found another reference for Mi Laser Projector International version, it uses T962X which does not have VP9 decoder. On the other hand it is only 1080p so probably not matter.

So in the end, I am wrong to say Google Certified infers VP9.

Back to L43M5-5ARU (or L55M5-5ARU) Mi TV 4S 4k TV Russia version, it does not seem to use Amlogic processor, but rather another one from MStar (part of MTK now). The CPU model seems to be T22 (M7322) with very limited info.

Bro, 4k 60hz not an available option. Only the following:

4k 20 hz
4k 25 hz
4k 30 hz
4k smpte

Is this a limitation of the box or TV? Maybe that's why Netflix not able to show 4k titles?

Thanks!

Noted. MiTV still use Cortex SOC except the details of the chips are now designed by MediaTek and not Amlogic. Both MediaTek and Amlogic are fabless IC chip designers. They get 3rd party like TSMC to manufacture the chips after having designed them. Think MediaTek added the VP9 codings in their design and sell their chips to Xiaomi.

Saw a post from bro @skies86 here https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/122978054-post979.html also mentioned can't find 4k2k 60hz option in his Mi Box S, but using different TV.

I checked the stats of the Mi TV 55", it should have 60hz refresh rate, not sure why 4k2k 60hz is not showing up as an option though!

Not a good idea to use 4k 60Hz for Mi Box S as you are taxing the low end S905X CPU and UI will be sluggish and not so responsive. Better stick to 4k 30Hz or 4k 24Hz. Many Netflix Movies are 24fps in its original format.

Still can't get Netflix to display 4k titles though, trying to figure out why. :s11:

Aiyah, forgot to do this check when I opened up to check last night. Next check can only be done when I move to my new place.

Same seller, same model, pray hard should not have differences..

Worth it for the price! :D
