On Android TV OS, VLC is usable but not as popular. MX Player or Kodi are much more popular.

Oooo... I'm trying to understand how to use Kodi on tv... I use it on my PC but it's kind of for the pretty album art only... but I don't know how to use it really... ha ha... find VLC more convenient for volume control (just use the scroll wheel) and more responsive than Kodi... maybe will try MX player...

Wassup with MiTV 55" 4S ?

Prices have gone up by a $100 from $465 originally sold in feb-March 2020

And now downgraded with only USB 2.0 ports, (Slower transfers from previously having USB 3.0)

Having USB 2.0 ports is helpful if you're connecting a 2.4 GHz USB receiver for a wireless keyboard and mouse. USB 3.0 causes interference... also, you usually don't transfer files to your tv with the limited storage. So transfer speeds don't really matter?

It does matter,

Especially when you playback 4K media from a USB 3.0 external HDD ,with USB 2.0 throughput the 4k video/audio will be lagging/stuttering for sure e.g MKV files (H265/+ and above), as the 4K TV OS media player/VLC Player will have a higher overhead esp when it has to struggle with USB 2.0 to cache the large media content files for playback of 4K/HD audio/video content

Strange with USB 3.2 available today ..USB 2.0, (Circa April 2000) a 20 years old tech is still in our midst and sold within a brand new 4K TV, even my 4 years old UltraHD TV has 2 x USB 2.0 & 1 x USB 3.0

For your reference, a compressed 4K video is about 40Mbps, BluRay UltraHD (4K UHD) is up to 128Mbps, a typical 4K camcorder is generally around 100Mbps. So videographers can forget about buying this TV

So yes, it does matter:) having no USB 3.0 is a big issue especially for a 4K TV , not everyone is subscribed to a streaming service :)

playing 8k/16k media on 4k tv? even if you wanted to, you can't find any.

usb2.0 can support up to 480Mbps, after discounting overheads and inefficiency, it is quite easy to achieve over 200Mbps, more than enough for high bit rate 4k media.

Found it

Go to Android launcher mode, then the gear icon, TV and choose from there. But that's only after the channels are scanned, else it keep saying no signal. The other way to change it on the fly is to watch the channel, then press the circle button/settings button (Depending on RUS/Spain set) then go to system settings (all the way right), TV and choose the current audio/sub track what you want. I'm not sure if this is per channel setting or temporary change. Forgot to test that

Hi these steps I need to change the audio track everytime. How to permanently set the audio track? Eg channel U to Chinese instead of Korean.

Wifi streaming seems ok for 4K videos... and wifi throughput could be lower than USB 2.0?

there are different speed for 4k streaming video, you can do it with 15Mbps with reasonable clarity. netflix and youtue use 25-30Mbps for 4k. However, some blueray rips need high bit rate of 100-200Mbps.

this tv wifi should be able to support 200+Mbps.

Yes, burden my other new current h/w with the tight overheads..and "just" enough with evident video lags and audio desynchronisation happening, not just talking also about lack of efficiency rates or compatibility, whereby multiple codecs are involved..and everyone knows the max support for USB2.0 is up to 480Mbps but did anyone ever reach that ??? did you ?

hah ha in reality not even 200MBPS esp when there are many other h/w utilising new tech USB 3.0-3.2 protocols working in the background..

Come on guys, why are you even defending a TV Company that's penny wise pound foolish and stinge and insist on using 20 years old tech in a 2020 Brand new 4kTV?

IMHO hope I didn't rilled up any Mi-TV defending Fanboy still living in the Year 2000 tech age :) Ok anyway Thanks for the kind replies :) will just be looking elsewhere for my new 4K TV or buy the previous year $100 cheaper 4K MiTV with 1 x USB 3.0, 2 x USB 2.0 ( Actually that was my question I asked earlier, but seems nobody listens or able to answer that )

video lag and audio desynchronisation are not caused by lack of speed.

read carefully, I said can easily reach 200+Mbps. What is talking about reaching max speed of 480Mbps??

If you are new in this area, be humble. I will not reply to you anymore.

If you are into high bit rate media playing from local USB HDD or NAS, you may want to invest in an Android TV box like Nvidia Shield TV Pro, or some other boxes with Gigabit Ethernet, dual band wifi and USB 3.0, for example, Minix NEO T5 box with S905X2 CPU. Or Beelink GT King S922X box.

Hi All,

Not sure if anyone faces the same issue as me. I am using Mi TV 4S 43 inch and Apple TV 4K. In Netflix after i set to 4K HDR, the menu looks dim and washed out. This is particularly obvious when i view movies with HDR/Dolby Vision. I also tried changing to 4K SDR and enabled match content (dynamic range and match frame rate) in Apple TV settings also same result.

Not sure if this has anything to do with the display settings in my Mi TV. So for now i switch back to 4K SDR (without enabling match content) but this will mean i cannot enjoy the HDR/Dolby Vision offered by the Apple TV 4K.

Not sure if this will help.

(4K) HDR10 / Dolby Vision needs higher bandwidth in the HDMI connection. You need to enable HDMI 2.0 mode on the Xiaomi Mi TV 4S 43" TV.

If I'm not wrong,

When you first connect a device to any HDMI port on the Xiaomi Mi TV 4S 43" TV -- that (particular) HDMI port on the TV doesn't operate in HDMI 2.0 mode by default.

If not done so yet, enable HDMI 2.0 mode -- for the (exact) HDMI port on the Xiaomi Mi TV 4S -- that you connect the Apple TV 4K device. Read post #76 (& post #880) -- in earlier Part V of this thread.

Next, ensure that HDMI display output from the Apple TV 4K device is set to 4K 60fps.

You also need to set streaming quality to 'High' under Netflix. See this link below:
https://help.netflix.com/en/node/42384

Now proceed to select a HDR10 enabled (or Dolby Vision enabled) show/movie on Netflix to test.
(Not all shows on Netflix are available in HDR10 or Dolby Vision.)

If still not OK, switch to use another HDMI port on the TV & repeat the above.

Also, check the HDMI cable to ensure you don't have a faulty or poor quality HDMI cable.

Thanks @xiaofan, would consider that option, but will just look out for the older MiTV 4S with the USB 3.0 as don't want to over spend on my tight budget

Thanks for reading & answering the question I was asking :)
