Here's the bad news, peeps. Although the Acro S has a front camera it cannot make video calls....NO 3G video calls which I unfortunately discovered after I bought it. Just tested both Google Talk and Skype and unfortunately too cannot be done. For some odd reasons, Sony has disabled the front camera for video call/chat.

If anyone has successfully used another app for video call/chat, please share. TIA.

ARGH!!!

Edited: Just installed Tango and can't turn on front camera also!

ARGH!!!!!

Thanks, Oinkize. I bought it because I assumed that it has 3G video call as it is quite the standard feature for mid to high end phones nowadays and a couple of websites say so too. Quite disappointed actually.

Will try Google Talk out later.

Thanks again.

Apparently only samsung phones can do normal 3g video calls.

Ok, an update.

I tested video calls around 5pm earlier and posted that Skype and Tango did not work.

Went out with my family for shopping and had dinner....just reached home, took a shower, came out, tested again....for some unknown reasons, both Tango and Skype video calls are working now but not Google Talk aka Vtok and 3G video call.

Apparently you are not well-informed. Sony phones can do video calls with third-party apps. And if you cant, its just some problem with the apps or version.

Only sammy fans say all the good things about sammy phones & bash other phones.

Skype on XS ICS - xda-developers

Apparently you are the one who is not informed or blinded by sony and unable to accept that fact that ONLY samsung can do normal 3g video call. Please show proof how you are able to make 3g video calls from android dial pad ok?

Dun say i dun give chance. You can use x10 till the latest sony android phone to prove your point.

Else if you have problems understanding what people is asking, dun just shoot for the sake of shooting.

That's weird. Good to know that it is working for you. Via 3rd party app and not the normal 3g video call way via dial pad.

One thing about htc is that their software is worse compared to sony. Their phones use same chip but sony phones always come out top.

Any well respected tech savvy will not anyhow whack other brands unless there is examples shown or the one whacking is a particular brand's fan boy.

Relax, guys. :) :) :)

I was indeed asking about 3G video call earlier. If I recall correctly, my old Sony Ericsson W850i was able to make 3G video calls. But since I can now make video calls with either Tango or Skype, everything's good! :D

Have a beautiful Sunday! :) :) :)

If you really read my post clearly, I did say video calls by third-party apps, I did not say 3g video calls.

Anyway, any android users can use third-party apps to make video calls. Unless you are filthy rich, then maybe you insist on 3G video calls which is your own business. :D

And seriously, x10?? Its time to move on to new gadgets. :s13:

Its well-known that htc did not have great software, sense UI was good but it eats a lot of memory. I have friends who owns htc phones, I played with their phones and clearly that is the case.

It is true that sony is late with hardwares, but they do better software optimization. Maybe you can say I bash any brands or phones, but its the truth, sony is always late with hardware and htc does not have better software. :D

Nvm, i managed to update it, by going to Sony Experia website, & launching the "Update Java Applet". Surprisingly it worked this way, but not via the PC Companion.

If you have read the post by the other forumer, you should give correct info 1st then offer to provide another 3rd party way.

Ok then please tell me which current sony android phones are capable of making normal 3g video calls?

Be truthful and say the correct things. I did no wrong in saying that sony is not able to make normal 3g video calls and samsung is able to. It is a person's choice to use whatever means to use video call function.

By not using it the same way as you does not mean that whoever is rich. I can also say that you are filthy rich to use data when a non data user can use their free allocated free video calls minutes to call out without the need to subscribe data. The 'free' data you have is not really free you know? A basic voice plan costs $25+ whereas a basic data+voice plan costs $38+. You are paying extra for data. But am i saying that you are filthy rich? No such comments from anyone other than yourself.

Anyway i am using a htc one x, i can safely tell you that i am neither a sumsung nor htc fan boy. Which ever brand is good i will support.

Which comes to the point, i have used and tried most of se's phone to the current sony phones and yes their hardware is always slower than others. But i will not comment about the s/w optimizations.

I can only say i have used better phones though.

A man's meat could be another man's poison. If you love sony phones, go ahead. You have your choice and freedom.

Finally, to be frank. I have been to samsung's and htc's thread and i dun see brand bashing there. It seems that a 'weaker' brand user tends to bash other 'stronger' brands to justify their own purchase is made correct. That is not supposed to be the way.

Cheers. :)

Tl,dr.

Ok, if you like 3g video calls that much then go ahead.

Peace. :D

Camera Shutter sound very soft!

Need some help, how do I increase the camera shutter sound?

I remember before the update t 6.1.A.2.45, the sound is pretty loud and clear, now the sound is very very soft. I went to a Sony shop in Bugis to buy the MW600 and mentioned about this problem, and the guy says I better brind the phone down to the service centre as he feels there is a problem with the phone! I can't believe that this tough phone is spoiling so fast after 3 weeks!

It's not spoiling. Salespeople will ALWAYS tell you to bring it to the service centre.

Chances are, sony is using a different, lower-volume .ogg file because everyone was complaining about the shutter sound being too loud in the older version. Just ask around on XDA forums for how to increase it.

Found the solution, I saw somewhere on the net people complaining on the XS that the system sound is too low. recommended to download from play the app call quick settings. Adjusted the system volume in that app.

Saw that the system vol was only at 2 and I increased to 7...and voila the camera shutter sound can and all system sounds can be heard again!

Don't know what we can access the system volume level in the normal settings page.

On a related note, does anyone know how to customize the fonts?

I wonder if all this restrictions is because I have not rooted the phone (don't know how still)
