Just hope they settle the autofocus and heating issues first before pushing the phone out.Wireless charging is a great feature that has been sorely missed in earlier models.
I am looking at Asus' offering for phones without notch or holes in display.
But this incremental update may tilt my interest back to sony.

Sony will not over do computational photography. That's for sure. If you like fantasy island effect you can edit and post later.Sony's automatic post processing and camera system are quite weak based on my experience with Xperia 5 II. Even mid-high Xiaomi's perform better.
Mhmm...will there be a 5 iv? Patiently waiting

Sony's photography is more honest imo. Raw and unfiltered. iPhone, Pixel and Samsung tend to "touch up", that is why it looks "better".Sony's automatic post processing and camera system are quite weak based on my experience with Xperia 5 II. Even mid-high Xiaomi's perform better.

But what peeves me is the only 2 years worth of OS and security updates even for their flagships amounting to >$1,000
Then you are welcome to go to Xiaomi ~Honest doesn't mean have to be bad right? My experience with Xperia 5 II regular camera app are that to focus is very slow, take photo at a slightly dark situation will cause serious shutter speed lag, and 4k video recording will have overheat problem. The camera app performance is worst compared to my other cheaper Snapdragon 865 phone from Xiaomi. Don't ask me to use pro app when I just want to take a quick snap of printed documents or bright projector screen.
The sacrifice for having camera-like experience is I can't have a good auto mode like any other smartphone? Do I have to bring along a cheap Xiaomi phone just to meet my daily office work usage? Then you are welcome to go to Xiaomi ~
When you use these newer Xperia phones with photo pro software (even the ones prior to that) you are using exactly camera-like experience because it behaves exactly like a camera. Even with a DSLR or a compact camera focus will also behave like that in super low light because of shutter speed vs ISO and aperture. It seems that you did not experience handling a camera before.
For your slow shutter speed of the 5II I guess you are using either basic or photo pro auto mode which uses multi frame noise reduction thats why you see it slows down, but the final image will be real beautiful and closer to natural look less the fantasy world effect which many other phones tend to focus on. If you like more to fake fantasy world pictures and is very much concern over it, this phone is not for you.
For taking pictures on bright projector screen your shutter speed lag??? Are you kidding?
Which phone record 4k video do not overheat? With the 5II you are talking its using snapdragon 865 which is manufactured by TSMC and is known to give apples mobile processors a run for its money also overheat. Even Canon DSLR also overheat. So your
But for this 1IV , 5IV , pro I and the rest of the phones which uses Snapdragon 8 gen 1 and snapdragon 888 processors they do heat up fast I admit. ( Do Google which company manufacture these chips ) As well as Sony sacrificing size for large battery and disregarded their cooling measure (they could have missed out the part that the processor could've been such a heater and overtaken the snapdragon 888 throne )

Also, FCC of 5IV is out. It should be similar to 1IV using 8gen1 chip but comes with wireless charging. Nice!

There's way to turn off the multi frame only you did not know the phone camera well enough (or did you really own an Xperia 5II?? )The sacrifice for having camera-like experience is I can't have a good auto mode like any other smartphone? There's nothing beautiful or natural about the documents which I am trying to take in a darker environment. The worst part is there is no way to turn off this multi frame noise reduction which took like forever especially when you are in a rush.
For bright projector screen, it's more of slow to focus/overexposed issue in auto mode. Before I can capture a clear shot, the presenter already moved to next slide.
For 4k video recording for extended period, the phone will first show warning and followed by shut down of the camera app. I don't encounter it when I am using my other phones.

slow to focus / overexposed for bright screen for auto mode? Are you kidding me? You really need to send your phone to service center then.
Also, yes it seems Xperia is not the phone for you. You can use your cheap Xiaomi phone (as how you described ) if it suits you better.
use photography pro and do not use basic and auto mode. Go program auto mode ,ISO set to auto and single shooting mode / continuous auto focus but do not turn on auto HDR. its a bit similar to multi frame noise reduction. Set your camera to remember your last setting so you will auto be in that mode when you press the camera shutter to activate it will be in the last mode you set .Can turn off? Where is it then? Why would I need to bluff you? Or is it just Sony fanboy can't take honest feedback?
I concurred with many opinions of the camera experience of Xperia 5 II in this Reddit thread. There are many replies to it whose agreed with the op.
I highly doubt it will come with 8+ Gen 1 processor ~
