apparently he was offered a 1 to 1 exchange. See his earlier post about the weak wifi signal Post #371:

Having wifi dropped off issue with this phone.
Using it inside my room but wifi signal to weak then suddenly drops off, checked samsung and iphone all were full in wifi signal.

Brought to sony service center in bishan, they can not do anything about it.
Decided to ask for replacement and different brand in Singtel Ang Mo Kio but manager wont allow, instead 1-1 replacement, i refused found out to be design problem for this model.

Oh btw, has Sony come back to you on your repair status? Seems like 3 weeks now already

Oh.. sori my fault.

just received call from call centre tat my phone will only be ready next week cos he said need to monitor the phone.
Mine camera button not functioning can lead to so big issue ah?

Just change for the new set and sell it off. Get a samsung or apple. save your hassle of complaining here. :s13:

Hi bro not complaining here, just to advice other people about my bad Xperiance with sony,

and oh by the way i managed to replaced with a new one from Singtel Raffles, and the result turned out to be the same, still experiencing wifi dropped off in my room.

then we tested the Xperia S model of my colleague in the office we connected in the wifi system then i cover the 3sides of the phone and wifi dropped off also, shocking noh!

Not complaining but just head ups for other people about this issue with Xperia.

Oh planning for selling.LOL. anyone keen just PM me.LOL

Yo bro! really had argument with the manager of Singtel Ang Mo kio, i apologized for her, but she was really professional noh, she called me back that day to file a formal complain against sony eventhough i raised a bit my voice with her.Sory but i just got pissed off after knowing that can not change anymore to other brand even though you'll top up, really disappointed with sony.

During the test, were the phones in cases or naked?

I say it is a good buy and a solid mid range phone.

No problems for me and I just tried covering all 4 sides of the phone with my hands and body (phone cover on) in my office and yes the wifi signal drop but still able to surf I think.

The thing is: it is impossible to cover all the corners with normal usage...so this is not a problem.

Now my question: How to adjust sms tone and ring tone volume seperately? The sound options group sms + ring tone as 1 volume and media/songs/apps as another volume. I want sms loud and ringing low.

Hi bro, just wondering what model you are using?

Can you compare the wifi signal with any other brand that might you have there while walking away from the router and see how the wifi signal performs?

Thanks.

Did a speedtest in my bathroom(master bedroom)which is furthest distant away from my lousy pace modem router (living room). I am on 10mbps adsl currently.

Signal dropped but no problem surfing net and watching hd youtube video smoothly! Those who very particular with wifi signal strength perhap get others.
Overall performance for this mid range 4g phone has been good for my needs, satisfied with battery performance as well and dun cost me!

Probably your modem/router not as compatible as samsung or apple in terms if signal strength. Unlikely both sets are lemon.

works well with linksys cisco e1200 in my office, singtel 2wire mio version and the black aztech modem router at home. The cisco has the best reception; able to receive about 2 bars with a wall partition and glass panel in between.

Maybe you should share the brand and model of your modem so if other users here with same modem can advise if they are encountering the same problem as you.

Ours is D-link in my house, but i dunno what we are using in the office, both weak wifi signal :s11:

Then the Sony Call Center called me twice,

1st they offer me to replace my model from Xperia SP to Xperia V...Stupid! Who wants to exchange for a downgrade!

2nd, they call me back again and they offer to replace it by Xperia Z, but need to top up SGD200, although good deal but i preffer to REFUND!

If you want to change to Xperia Z, just do also compalain, they will offer you something, just follow what i did lol, but i prefer to refund.

Worth the top up for merely $200. The z can easily fetch $600 for brand new set now. I would take the offer if given the opportunity.

Too bad, the wifi module on my set is functioning perfectly. No good reason to bang table. :s13:

sounds like you have a fool proof way to show that almost all xperia models have the same problem even though the sets are working perfectly

What if (just a possibility) it's your router / wireless gateway having issues with the phone and not the phone itself ?

Has the phone connected and held connection to another wifi network before ?

Thanks.

I did some quick testing. My router is an ASUS RT-N56U.

  1. The Xperia SP (XSP from now on) is unable to see my neighbouring access points well. Eg. At 1 location, I can pickup about 5-6 on my Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGS3), while the Xperia only shows 1-2.
  2. The XSP displays the WIFI signal strength on the notification bar differently from the SGS3. Eg. At -78dB on both sets (using "Wifi Analyser" app, SGS3 may show 3/4 bars, while XSP shows 1/4 bars.
  3. At a location in the house far away from the router, the XSP is unable to even ping the router, even though the icon shows that it's still connected to WIFI, albeit at 0/4 bars. The SGS3 is still able to ping and run speedtest without problems. Testing at this location was done with both phones on a plastic chair - when I picked up the XSP with one hand, WIFI totally dropped (icon disappeared).

So even after taking point 2 into consideration, the XSP's WIFI is definitely not as stable nor sensitive as the SGS3. It might be a problem depending on the size and stories of the house.

And becoz of point 2, let's use quantified values from WIFI analyser app if we want to compare numbers between different phones.
