Are they still using TFT screen for Xperia ZU? And there isn't any led as seen from the back. Really disappointed
Hi happy2day,

the xperia z ultra still uses a TFT panel, but the whitewashed effects we saw on the Xperia Z is no longer present on the Z Ultra.

check out our video to see for urself: First Looks: Sony Xperia Z Ultra vs. Other Phablets - Videos - HardwareZone.com.sg

and oh, the S4 active is another phone with an exposed 3.5mm audio output jack that is waterproof.

http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/feature-hands-samsung-galaxy-s4-active

in future if OEMs decide to adopt nano coatings like DryWired, the entire phone can be placed in water up to 1m for an hour with no damage to the internals.

i think considering the phone is so slim, able to squeeze 3000mah is quite good.
but i think main concern is not that.

the main concern...like 1 of my earlier post is that it's 3000. whereas note 2, which is a smaller screen sized phone with lower chip spec is 3100mah.

hence, there's a worry that a 3000 mah battery...whether is it able to power ultra's:
bigger screen, faster chip.

a lot depends now on the efficiency of the lcd and chip.

100mha a lot of difference meh? :s22:

of course not much diff if we just look at battery comparison, since its just a 3% drop compared to note 2.

but the screen increase is 17% and cpu is 37.5% (1.6 to 2.2). and we know any increase would definitely increase power consumption.

and we have no idea how efficient the new chip and Sony's build is. but it would have to be a considerable improvement.

hence I'm sensing a weaker battery performance from ultra.

of course, I hope sony would be able to prove me wrong and perform close to note 2's level.

Based on my experience using xperia Z its stamina mode is amazingly good n really works. The battery level will remain more or less stagnant even with 3g on if you leave it idle for several hours. You need not use any 3rd party app. I have used Samsung all the S series, note series, htc 1, htc1x etc n none of these phones can ever match the XZ stamina mode even with battery app installed. So I expect longer standby time for this XZU if it performs similarly

that's great to hear.

but i've never needed to use any battery apps on my note 2 and it can last me 13-15hrs which is more than enough for me.

I hope without stamina mode, the XZU will be able to meet or exceed this :)
because i really dislike disabling my data connection as i need my push emails/whatsapp/other msgs. and if we whitelist those apps, it would be as good as not turning on stamina mode.

The phone is slim and water resistant, 3000 mah is considered very good.
Dont just look at one side of the coin. :D

Well, you answered yourself. Its only prototype.
Wait for the final unit to judge. :D

of course i will wait for the final unit.
plus, now i will even wait till early adopters give some reviews/feedback before getting it. originally was tempted to get it once available locally.

coz now...it doesn't bode well for the ultra.
i'm sure the final unit will have better quality pictures...but...seriously.
looking those pictures...it really needs to improve by ALOT lol

After using xperia arc, arc s, s, tx, active, z.
I found that Sony phones are capable of taking good pictures.

Somehow those review sites like Gsmarena or phonearena always come out with worse pictures.
I dont know if I take better pictures or the rumor about paid reviews are quite true.

Sometimes its better to review phones ownself, reviews are not so trustworthy as they used to be.

To be frank, dont get high expectations.
The camera will never be better than those Nokia huge camera phones due to Nokia's use of bigger lens.
However, it puts up a good fight with the rest of android phones.

haha...my expectations not very high la.
plus, i'm not those very concerned about camera quality, but it cannot be worse than my note 2 la.

so, if final ones pic quality got improve and close to what i have now, then most probably i'll get it.

It will never be worst than your Note 2 as the camera used is from Sony but just a basic Lens. All Samsung camera lens sucks all time including their digital camera.

I think it will be somewhat as good, if not better.
They are not in the league of digicam or dslr to really define good pictures.

Note that camera is only a secondary feature of ZU, the big screen and s800 soc is the main course. :D

Not forgetting the screen input by just using any pen or pencil, you do not need the dedicated stylus like Note 2.
