Sony undoubtedly has better camera hardware than competition but honestly, it is let down by its software.

ATM, to take full advantage on its capabilities, users have to basically approach it as a full fledged camera, i.e. compose the picture, switch off the iauto, make sure the focus is there (the focusing is terribly slow...even for a phone camera).

hence, for an average consumer like you and i, comparing shots taken volume wise, Samsung and Apple phones will churn out more photos at better quality than Sony. Sad to say but thats the truth..and i dont buy the argument that i need to learn how to use it properly, or wait for firmware updates...etc etc. It is what it is, a phone PnS camera targeted at mainstream. If i need to approach it as a serious phtography tool to take good photos, then it has failed to serve 95% of the user base, straight out of the box.

Looking at the sample photos, thats about the quality you get when iauto is switched on. Again, i agree its better to compare first hand with the demo sets when they are here to make self-judgment.

btw, talking abt stylus feature, its said that ZU is lacking in pressure sensitivity as compared to note 2 even if it gains in other aspects as ability to use pencil etc. so again, pros and cons.

Guess Sony has noticed their lacking of camera apps and the newer firmware on the Xperia Z has improve on the camera app, not to mention that the Honami will have newer camera app as it focus on Camera function on that phone. =:p

Yup. Honami is rumoured to implement the new JPEG processing algorithm shared with new upcoming models of Sony's line of NEX cameras (and mayeb DSLR?)....2 products that im so looking forward from Sony =)

Btw, OMG, ZU is as tall as tablet Z's width....and Z looks like a midget next to it lol. I shall remember that image when resisting against temptation to own ZU hahahaa

You dont have to agree anything. If two users take pictures from same phone and only one takes better pictures, it says something about the one who doesnt.

Moreover, no need to bring in other brands to make Sony look bad and convince others its the truth.
It will be helpful if you can use the phone and comment on its pros and cons, instead of repeating what many had said.

Unfortunately, ZU is not released and some comments just does not hold water. :D

Sony Xperia Z isn’t that bad as perceived. The iauto focus function at first shot is abit slower but once you snap the subsequence photos, you will be amazed by the quality at a much faster speed than you first snapped. Other than the camera aspect, I don’t really see how Note 2 is a better option. It’s a chicken and egg thing on the decision of what you are looking for. The battery lifespan in Z is really good and can last about 8-10 hrs of normal usage before hitting below 10% (surf net, candy crush, whatsapp, line etc). Thus, Xperia Ultra is definitely going to be much better than Z. This is just my experience sharing with Xperia lovers or intends to buy one.

Cheers!

I was using my own experience with recent generations of Sony "flagships" from S, TX, V and Z when providing comparisons and in general thats what i found out and its consistent across these 4 phones. Sure, sony can produce good quality pictures, better than other even, but how many times do I have to take multiple shots to get one? definitely more times than other brands, and they are from my personal experiments.

Do they frustrate me? yes. Am i a noob who has no idea on how to take good photos? perhaps. But for me and how i take photos, other brands seem to give me better quality pics more frequently.

Just today i was trying to capture moments using my Z and i got a blurry pic because the phone is slow to launch and takes too long to focus. Thats what a phone camera is useful for and it failed me in that regards.

and im not trying to make Sony looks bad. I am a sony fanboy myself and if Sony produces a prod that i need, i will get it over other brands. But at the same time, weaknesses are weaknesess and Sony is not above criticisms as they can still improve in many areas.

Just my own 2 cents =)

Maybe if you are interested in photography, pick out some tips online or from friends on how to use those features which Sony provided. How many mainstream users use Exposure manually and the white balance feature? Mostly depends on the auto function and blame on that when the photo turned out bad because they do not know why the iauto behaves this way.

I think the processing algorithm is already in RX100 II.

Relax bro, I can assure you almost all users have more or less problems with their phones.
But that does not mean the camera phone is bad.

It does not have the technology of dslr and digicams, lower your expectations and you will do fine. :D

Just curious whether you have upgrade to 4.2.2? I usually take photo using normal mode and not the iSuperior Auto mode and when you have upgrade to 4.2.2, you will notice the improved on camera launching and photo quality.

I agree... I hav tx n z... both camera takes quite a while to focus.... if u want to take a quick snap, most likely u need to shoot at least twice as the first one wil b blurry.... and under indoor fluorescent light conditions, the pics are horribly saturated. . Try taking a pic of yr jeans under fluorescent environment. . No matter whst mode u choose, your jeans color wil never b the same as the actual....its either too blue or too cyan..

I hope honami will b better...

Maybe for Z i admit sometimes it takes a while to focus (lowlight shots).
The BE2 makes a lot of color oversaturated. Otherwise, the colors are pretty much accurate without BE2.

For TX are you sure? Since the latest JB update the camera have been pretty snappy, shoots almost everything in less than a sec with much sharp and good results.

I hope you are not mixing up both results for Z and TX, they are not using the same camera module. :D

Having been using Xperia Z since launch, I too agree that the camera is slow in focusing and it is pretty bad with low light shots...as long as you are not shooting in a very bright location, be it Superior Auto+/Normal/Manual Exposure+ISO/Flash or no flash...the pictures taken will be blurry and full of noises...
But if you get over the camera, the phone itself is fast and snappy especially now with the 4.2.2 update :D

Anyway, anyone know if the Z Ultra is releasing end of july? Interested to see how the new Triluminous display is :s12: Might trade in my Z for the Z Ultra!

Usually people carry around portable chargers so you can recharge your phone as well as other phones.

Spare battery will only last as long as your usage of phone.

Once you changed phone, you can reuse your portable charger but not necessary your spare battery.

So dont be too hard on the non-removable battery feature. :D

GN3 is still in rumorland.
