right right. mind explaining (2) ? im eager to learn if you are eager to share. im sure others are too.
(3) yeap. agreed. its a 2 min quickie job so i didnt put much effort into doing this. my bad if its confusing. will try better next time
but some bits in the two graphs dont match. if its a long run fact, i can understand. but does not necessarily apply in the short term.
put the 2 graphs up to illustrate two points
-short term yen-SGD relationship and STI movements may not necessarily hold true.
-get a relative sense of the yen-SGD movement within the recent months
Just as stocks go up and down on a daily basis due to the interaction of a multitude of factors, we cannot expect the relationship of the yen and stocks to hold for every second of every single day. That would be naive.
i.e. The relationship i have shown you all in this forum holds in general but not 100% of the time. So, if you are expecting STI up Yen down to hold ALL of the time, then that just simply is not the case. That said, the truth of the general relationship can still be seen quite clearly from the graphs.
As for the reason for the correlation between the two, i think i have done enough to point this forum in the right direction with regards to the yen and presented you guys with something interesting. The rest can be researched easily if you just look for the information on the internet. I believe in people educating themselves rather than me spoon-feeding everything.
i think it a step forward that people in this forum now realize that the yen is unlike many other currencies in the world.
In another post, i said that it would be wrong to try to predict the yen's movement based on where the STI is THOUGHT to be headed. The reason for this is also something which should be thought about.
Cheers.
