Hi there! Anyone has been to Yogyakatar, can share your experience? I'm thinking of going there for about 7 days (2pax), not too sure how much I can cover within that period... Wanted to go Mt bromo too, but might be abit too far for it..

did a short trip sometime back. this is what we did:

day 1: late lunch and transport to base camp
day 2: ascend gunung merbabu
day 3: descend, rest, drinks
day 4: sunrise @ borobudur, rest, sunset @ prambanan
day 5: am flight back to sg

would have extended 1 more day for jomblang cave if i knew about it earlier. if there's a 7th day i would have gone to merapi or sandboarding but they don't appeal to me as much as the other stuff.

If you're into hiking can go climb merapi. Do include jomblang cave in your itinerary.

We got Viavia Jogjakarta to organize the hiking portion. Cabbed there from the airport for lunch when we arrived and explored the vicinity, bought food and water. After the hike they dropped at at the hotel.

Probably used them for the Borobudur visit and made private arrangements with the driver for Prambanan. You can cut down the transportation and entry cost for Borobudur by staying at the hotel there.

Manohara hotel is great for viewing sunrise at Borobudur temple. Sunrise is the best time to visit the temple. It's peaceful, cool, and beautiful. After 7am, the crowds start to arrive and the place is overrun with tourists and local school kids, and becomes a crowded noisy madhouse.

The hotel is far from Yogja town and Prambanan. The entry ticket to the temple is included in the hotel price. Ideally, stay here for 1 night to view the sunrise at the temple the next morning.

Alternatively, if you stay in Jogja, you can arrange a morning sunrise tour to Borobudur. There are package tours, but be careful, many cheap "sunrise" tours actually view the sunrise on a mountain near the temple. You should catch the sunrise IN the temple itself. State this clearly when booking a tour.

Can also arrange private transportation from Jogja to the temple, dropping you off at the Manohara hotel. You will depart Jogja at 4am and arrive around 5:20-5:30am, just as the sun is about to rise. You buy the entrance ticket and enter the temple at the Manohara hotel. Returning from Borobudur to Jogja can be via bus. There's a bus station near the temple. Walk around the station and you'll hear bus conductors yelling "Jogja! Jogja!". Bus ticket is cheap ($1?).

Prambanan: you can get there by the Jogja public bus. The temple is very near the bus station, so don't let the rickshaw (Becak) drivers tell you otherwise. Just take a 5 mins stroll to the temple. Foreigners have to buy the expensive ticket, but it allows you to reenter the temple on the same day. Great if you go in the afternoon, and want to return for the sunset. If you can speak Bahasa, they'll think you are an Indonesian, and sell you the cheap single-entry ticket. Rent a bicycle and ride around the complex. There are also other temples nearby outside the complex. You cannot take the bicycles out of the complex, so take a becak to visit them.

After sunset, there's a nice Ramayana ballet show behind the temple. You have to pay for the show, but it's good and I recommend it. The show ticket counter also sells tickets for a shuttle bus to bring you back to Jogja after the show (the public buses would have stopped by then)

Mt Bromo is in east Java, while Yogyakarta is in central Java. The volcano for you is Mt Merapi. However good fitness is required for a midnight climb to see the sunrise. I tried in 2007 and gave up not far from the summit.

The garden of the Manohara offers the back entrance to Borobudur. There is not much in the town itself, unless you want to join the rich and famous at the very exclusive Amanjiwo.

When I visited in 2007, I flew by way of Solo, and was able to negotiate a deal with a Bluebird where I could stop by Prambanan on the way to Yogyakarta.

In Yogyakarta, I first stayed at the Ibis Malioboro where the action is. A mall is attached to the hotel and the hotel itself is not immediately on Jalan Malioboro, which is a very busy (and noisy) thoroughfare. There are many places to visit within Yogya, like the palace, city wall, batik shops, main market and handicraft workshops. You may also want to stay in resort like old-style hotels which consist of single-storey rooms centred around a swimming pool. These are found in the lanes to the south of the kraton.

I stayed at Hyatt. We did lunch there after the hike to maximize the amount of rest we could get and it turned out that the food was so good we only ate out when it was along the way from Borobudur and Prambanan. They also have Bintang on tap which we liked a lot.

I’m curious to know which airline has the best flight timings? I checked online and it seems the more affordable ones are all random hours... dun wanna wake up at 4am to go to Changi for a 6am flight!

Do you have the flight timings right? Only AirAsia and SilkAir fly direct. Both their timings are not bad. Of course AirAsia tends to be cheaper.

1. i going 27 nov to 1 dec.. << how is the weather there
2. how much should i bring for this trip.
3. see Mount Merapi is see from where.
4.also trip to jomblang cave. they got provide cover shoe to go visit the cave? cause i most likely will wear slipper thru out the whole trip.
5. there got grab?

Short:
1. Wet. Like Singapore, it is rainy season but cooler. Don't bother much.
2. Depends what you want to do. Couple of hundred $ in IDR should be enough. Get YouTrip card and you can always get cash at ATMs with good exchange rate.

5. It does not worth to stay at the hotel. Expensive, food not great, nothing else to do. Just book sunrise access option with them - it costs USD $40 per person, get a car which will deliver you there by 4AM in the morning. Go, get you access sticker at the hotel, doors open at 4:30, get in, enjoy your sunrise, leave at 7AM and come back.

There is a grab at Jogja, but I doubt that you can find someone taking you to Borobodur. It worth to try, but you should not expect success. Hiring car for the round trip is about 450K IDR.

5. Grab is available in Yogyakarta

The Manohara is important only if you want sunrise access to Borobudur via their entrance. It may be possible to get the same access without staying in the hotel.

3. It is likely the dusty tour as beanstalk has mentioned. But then you can also see Merapi from Yogyakarta city on clear days. Best view of Mt Merapi in my opinion is from Mt Merbabu but you need to hike up.
4. Yes, what I heard is that shoes are provided.
