No lah, I am very adhoc, this is how the allocation stands right now. I bought 10% of S&P500 in one shot just before the election day. But now I hope can stick with this allocation and build on it steadily.

which one you use? SPY?

will lockdown meh?

Well they won't have much choice if they are running out of body bags. If they let it spread like wide fire. Jan you will see about 3-4k death / day, their processing capability is about 1.5-2k depend on how concentrated it is.

unfortunate that we have to look at history repeating itself after 100 years but human seldom learn.

Just wondering, what is the current thinking regarding car ownership... does it become a viable option at a certain net worth or income level... or does car ownership no longer feature in most investors plans - priority is to FIRE and if car ownership delays FIRE, then its bad.

I know revhappy saves money by not owning a car but I know many (including myself) probably try to justify car ownership by saying that you can provide taxi service for family members, such as children and aged parents.

I own a car but I make sure it's within my means like less than annual income. I bought it only when my wife was expecting our first kid

Exchanging time with $. That's a v gd point. Depends on where you work etc, travelling distances via public and private matters.

But for youngsters, I see car ownership going the way of the horse carriages, as pointed out by none other than Khaw Boon Wan himself. Driving cars means youngsters cant play their mobile games and their instagram/tiktok.... haha

In singapore? I will never buy a car. A car is only useful in a big country.

Exactly my thoughts. Now with WFH, the utility value of a car drops even further, at least for me.

ya haha

i intend to get landed property because i want to have a room for walk in closet and still have enough rooms for my family

after that i think about it...i rather get a 4 bedder condo

of course now i'm speaking too ambitiously, i can't even afford a 700k flat lol

If you live in Singapore all your life and have a big social circle, friends and large family and if your networth is decent enough and you are happy with your job and plan to continue working. Then I think we shouldn't devoid ourselves with some of life's simple pleasures like owning a car. Especially like you said, if you have young kids, aged parents, and you visit people often.

I am living here devoid of a social circle or extended family. I have only my wife and daughter, so for us it is very easy to do without a car.

Convenience and utility is the top priority. Nowadays, more people view the private car as just a mean of transport. Less of a social status symbol. So, a cheap 2nd-hand car is likely sufficient. Secondly, having young children really increases the need for a car. Especially if the couple has multiple children with grandparents still around.
One of my cousins have 3 young kids, aged 1 yr, 4 yr and 6 yr old. She lives in Clementi. Her parents live in Redhill. Her in-laws live in Toa Payoh. She cannot imagine her life without the car. It is a need. :s22:
