Wanted to seek some advice on the zero1 $9.90 plan if its suitable for parents since my main worry is data charges due to non tech savvy parents...

Absolutely suitable.

If MyRepublic's Uno $8 still exist, it suits your parents more as it's cheaper and have 1000 mins of Outgoing Calls. The 1000 mins call is a steal - as elderly generally prefers making outgoing call than using Whatsapp/Telegram or even WeChat.

Nevertheless, it's suitable as the first 1GB is in a full speed 4G mode, followed by another few GBs of 1mbps throttled speed and 0.5-0.75mbps afterwhich.

Yes, indeed unlimited. No worries. But bear in mind, some videos on certain platforms (such as Youtube, Toggle; etc) may buffer on certain resolution >480p during throttled speed. 360p - 480p video resolution should be fine.

I don't understand why many peoples are concern with network congestion.
It's not like that you are in other countries.
or back in the olden days, yes. those days its a major problem for internet/network congestion.

Local telcos have the duties to provide stable network.

Maybe that's why currently they set to throttled speed to limit your speed.
I don't know the real reason thou
However it mostly gonna be stable network since being throttled
or they just wants to reduce and limit your data usage.

Zero1 throttled speed 1mbps shouldn't be a problem for many games.
Whereby some others can even play some games with Myrepublic Uno plan throttled.
IF really needed high speed, Fibre broadband is the best choice for gaming.

Please DO NOT USE 3G phones. Use 4G phones instead.
There's a difference even thou with the same 1mbps throttled speed for 3G & 4G phone whereby to play with good connection.

However it's not just speed. Your "Ping" & "latency" low/high also affects with your connection/gameplay with gaming servers. You can always try out/test with the gameplay.

I do not recommend playing mobile games with small screen for long duration because it may damage your eyes where some people already suffered.

This 1 I dunno liao.
Never play online mobile games not even to say on MRT rides/travelling.
network fault/server fault.
Another which I'm not sure is...
Singtel, Starhub and M1 are they using totally different networks
and so users may have different experience with good and bad.

Been really very long since I use Singtel network.

3G/4G smartphones should have no problem with getting 1mbps throttled speed.

There are few possibilities.

1) Your speedtest software/app is inaccurate
2) The network temporary have problem
3) Your phone has problem.
4) Your phone apps/softwares is making troubles to you (using your network or etc)
5) You're at very remote places where your reception isn't good.
(No.5 is unlikely because network been improve since.)

a) What you can do is use your phone, use google chrome, type "speed test" & search. Choose the one partner by google. "Measurement Lab" and run speed test. (sometimes their side will have troubles.)
AND
b) Use your other devices for speed test, example your other smartphone/router/4G usb modem for speed test. (follow step "a")

If still cannot you can email Zero1 check if they are giving 500kbps or less for "your subscribe plan" for their so called managed speed or not.

You use MyRepublic throttled data you will vomit blood. Anywhere you also will vomit, not just mrt.
