Hi all,

i emailed z1 to ask how to avoid being charged for Singapore calls to me when I’m overseas & below is their replies… do any of u happen to have any workaround or suggestions?
tks

  • Incoming and outgoing voice calls, as well as outgoing SMS, are chargeable under roaming rates once connected to a partner network, regardless of usage.
  • There is no way to avoid incoming call charges while roaming. Charges apply as long as the call connects to the network, even if unanswered or rejected.
  • You may refer to the full roaming voice and SMS rates

for my experience, and what others have shared, just let the call ring through, if the spam call comes in, just silent it, let it stop by itself, do not reject or pick up.

Best to ensure that features like call redirect, voice mail, etc, whereby the phone might auto-pickup to process the call are disabled too.

The least you can do for yourself is to enable blocking of overseas calls if you are not expecting it when you are overseas. The last thing you want is to be annoyed by spam calls or worse still charged for them.

On that note, Z1's signup form only allows blocking of both overseas calls AND sms, but there is an option to enable only overseas SMSes in the app after signing up.

I just ignore and leave the incoming calls unanswered if I am overseas .. turn my phone upside down.

MVNOs don't provide voicemails

Strange that on my iPhone on Zero1 - under "Deleted Voicemail", I do see some messages, perhaps answered and transcribed by the iPhone itself?
Anyway, have turned off the feature on the iPhone which might be the likely culprit - "Live Voicemail".

You can try. I wouldn't. They have no budget to update websites on weekends

When I used to roam, I had all calls diverted to +651. SMS still came through as usual, but callers only heard a busy tone when they tried to reach me. I haven't been billed for any of these diverted calls so far.

Somebody gave this advice on how to avoid the calls while overseas.

It didn't work for me (i.e. I get an error and unable to proceed).

I was able to do so, diverting ALL calls to a line that can take calls for free eg. Simba/eight.
You can also choose a line that rejects all roaming calls, eg Maxx.
Or a landline.
Neither will be an issue with billings.

Note, the ALL calls is key.
