M1 really suck. 50mbps max indoors for me. Vivifi can go up to 110mbps in doors.
Max speed isn’t really the most crucial factor for a mobile network, as most of the time you will not be downloading huge files. For 4K video streaming 20 Mbps is already sufficient. Factors like network prioritisation (which affects the amount of throttling during congestion) and ping affects the real world usage/experience more.

For normal day to day usage, I would be more than satisfied if a network can consistently have at least 20 Mbps regardless of any kind of real world factors that could cause congestion.

For me I feel that the minimum threshold is at least around 20 Mbps to have good real world performance such that you won’t really perceive any drop in responsiveness or extended loading times.

I follow quite a number of telco threads on this forum and the consensus seems to be that having plans directly under the 3 main telcos Singtel, StarHub and M1 (excluded TPG/SIMBA because they don’t have MVNOs) and probably paying more (compared to their MVNOs) will have a better experience.

Example:
  • Singtel SIM Only and XO plans rarely have reported cases or poor/slow network but you see some from GOMO/Zero1/Vivifi/Zym and more from Heya.
  • StarHub SIM Only plan and 2-year plan with devices rarely have reported cases or poor/slow network but you see some from redONE and more from giga.
  • M1 SIM-only and 2-year contract plans and Circles.Life have some reported cases or poor/slow network but you see more from MyRepublic/Changi Mobile.
NB: Legacy contract plans are becoming less popular and more users are switching to non contract and MVNOs so the results gathered from the threads may be skewed to some extent.

All in all, MVNOs with their cheaper pricing do have their place for customers who are more price sensitive and willing to have some compromise in the network performance at certain times. But if you want the best network of each main telco, it’s probably better to be directly under their plan if one is willing and/or able to pay more.

True story:

I was having dinner outside at a hawker next to Orchard Plaza last month.

I was using Zero1 ($6.90/month, a SingTel MVNO), while my friend uses SingTel (> $100/month).
For more than a minute (can't remember how long), the SingTel had zero reception, while Zero1 was full-bar.

We were both puzzled by this :D

Sounds like a phone issue, maybe trying to connect to wrong band or tower unsuccesfully.

Zero1's payment wont allow you to choose recurring or not. It's a compulsory and no option. Not really like the idea..

Happen to see some new options to change plan to Corporate Individual Scheme (CIS). Seems like just launched recently only.
https://zero.zero1.sg/how-to/enroll-in-zero1-cis-programme-guide/
According to the document below, CIS is only applicable for new sign ups using company email for companies that have been approved for Zero1 CIS. Discount is 10% off the price of plan.
https://zero1.sg/files/CIS_Application_Form.pdf
Also chance upon some new sections on their new website.

I collected my zero1 sim card at 10am ytd( saturday). At 1130pm, my previous sim card(circles life) no signal but zero1 also bo signal. Till this morning, zero1 still no signal.

Is this normal cause its a weekend? I thought the previous line would only cut off when i successfully port over.

Edit: i had to go to my settings and turn off and turn back on the sim card for it to work

anyone? thanks.

Here's some of my experiences:
Tested just now at my nearby TEL station underground with Zero1 Starter plan, because I was curious what's the highest throughput I can get. Pretty impressive. (Station was pretty much empty) I've never gotten such throughputs sitting at home.

Also tested with my current Circles plan, only managed around 100+M DL and similar for UL. (Both at home and MRT station)

I have recently used my Starter as a data provider when I was doing ICT in Gedong Camp. I have noticed that with plenty of users (I'm assuming Singtel network) around, my data rate will get throttled down to around 1Mbps, usually half of that, which is borderline unusable for anything other than messages. That's regardless the fact my 6GB data cap has not been reached yet. During an earlier weekend where only few of us returned, speed was noticeably quicker (at least 20-30Mbps).

Tested when I was outside camp, and speed was close to what I posted here a few months ago (200+ up and down). So that's one thing to take note on subscriber priority over the parent mobile network, especially when a lot of users are based off very few cell repeaters in the same area.

I don't have a 5G phone myself yet, but have you noticed standby (screen-off) or overnight battery life being affected with the more-frequent mode switching?

I survived an entire work-week in camp at that speed even though I'm not even through my quota because of subscriber prioritisation under ST's network. So it is still fine for most tasks, just not watching video 720p or higher with great loading speed.

Yours is also around 1Mbps (~120+KB/s) max? That's what I found when testing at home. In camp, I got throttled down to 70+KB/s.

Key takeaway:
Subscriber priority is lower for Zero1 users when on Singtel network. Very evident throttling (even before reaching data cap) when there are plenty of actual Singtel users around, especially when sharing the same cell repeater.

Thank you! Exactly what I had expected it to be. Subscriber priority is the key word. Thanks again.

Literally what I've been saying about especially when it comes to Heya.

If ST MVNOs are alr so deprioritized, I can't imagine how heya with even lower priority performs. Can users send a message?

Think it is the cheapest for $6.90 plan for seniors who hardly go out. Just signed up for my Dad.
Dun like the fact that must upload my IC photo during application. But the app quite good.

Is the $6.90/mth is forever or promotional rate for few months only?

It’s a promotion but didn’t state for how many months. $6.90 for 6G with free CID and no SIM card fees seems a good deal.

It’s forever. If you want can go their Facebook page and check the comments when the $6.90 starter plan launched in Feb. Also if you intend to sign up there’s the NDP promotion which can be found on their website.
