my regular restarts due to an unrecognizable device is still continuing, suspected Samsung TV causing (from forums) but no reply from Asus helpdesk. its one of the most popular smart TVs around!

i am starting to believe that this is the worst asus router ever ?

the irony is that asus will probably launch a v2, and leave all the loyal early adopters in a lurch. :s22:

AC87 and then AC88. No wonder they are like a series of lemon models. :D

Just wondering, where is the Asus support staff in this forum? Long time I don't see their post.

Lesson to be learn. Don't be an early adopter.

Sometimes i think really also depend on luck. Some people may experience a lot of trouble but some people may not. So is see heng or sway but more can be done from asus side.

Bring your receipt, your router, antennas and power cable for the customer service guys to troubleshoot.

They will try to resolve your issues on the spot.

Give some time allowance for the visit as there may be a long queue of people waiting before you.

The key lesson is still not to be an early adopter.

I have 3 Asus products at home now. A nearly 5 years old AIO, a 1 year old refurbished laptop and a 1 year old 2nd hand N66 (RMA set) router. All of them are working tip top.

Majority of their products are great but I believe some of their routers are lemon.

PS: I have a 3 years old refurbished tablet too. This one my kids are still using. And I am surprised to its long existence.

Asus replied to downgrade firmware using this link:
https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1005484

Some here says using recovery? So which is the correct way to downgrade the firmware?

That's for 'upgrade'. Recovery is the only way to 'downgrade'. I did mine via the recovery option, wasn't too difficult.

Anyway, IMHO this router sucks. Changed back to my old Asus N66U which at least provides for a stable wifi connectivity across my entire home. There were even times when my device loses wifi connectivity while on AC88U, resulting in unknowingly utilising 4G instead. :s27:

Asuswrt-Merlin 380.61 Beta 1 is now available for all supported models.

The main change versus 380.60 beta was the merge of Asus's GPL 380_3831, which should resolve various issues, and add support for the RT-N66U and RT-AC66U missing in the previous beta.

This version is also compatible with the new firmware format used by Asus since 380_3xxx.

The main change since 380.61 alpha 2 was a fix for the b/g protection checkbox that couldn't be disabled if Wireless mode was set to Auto.

EDIT: Also, dropbear was updated to 2016.74, as this version should finally resolve the SSH port forwarding issue introduced by 2015.68.

Downloads are here.
Changelog is here.
