60hz vs 144hz

curious, for 144Hz gaming we require the system to be able to render atleast 144Fps to see the full 144Hz right?

if I get 144hz monitor but system can only max at 100FPS is still a loss right?

100fps on a 144Hz monitor will still be smooth.

in this case, buying 144Hz but you are playing high graphics requirement games - e.g. Assassin's creed Odyssey - but with only RTX2060 for e.g.
you can reach around 80FPS only with ultra settings..

then no point buying 144Hz monitor.
buy 144Hz monitor then you also need to buy RTX2080 GPU I think..

60hz to 144hz not worthwhile unless wanna go pro? U dont have to play pro to wanna have smooth image and reduce choppiness when u play a fps game or even just on desktop with your different mouse movements.

let me guess,

1) u didnt use 144hz before
2) clearly are not a fps gamer, or if u are, u are a very casual gamer and probably not good at it
3) u turning old that your eyes cant see a difference

2) Yep I'm not into fps at all. Though I did play rainbow six siege for a short period and I can get diamond. It's usually for positional update which is not so crucial for casual players. Like I said, if u wanna climb ladder, then sure by all means.

No, not really. There is optimal range before tearing begins. 120-142 is optimal for 144hz. This is applied for Gsync but you get the idea.

Not really for those tryhard but fps shooters benefits 144hz the most, especially those games require you to turn around 180* frequently ( PUBG, Apex Legends, CS Go, Battlefield)

It's annoying af when the screen tearing appears when I play PUBG. Feel so good when I finally can get rig of those tearing

Go high refresh rate, as high as you can, but 75-100 Hz will let you see the biggest difference already.

Just please don't stay at 60 Hz.

Try gsync on a 240hz panel. Buttery smooth. But of course your games must be able to hit that frame rate

once you go 144hz, going back to 60hz will be painful. i cannot stand the 'lag'. nothing is as smooth anymore!

I went down from 144hz to 120hz and I honestly can't find much difference. But 60hz to 144hz was freaking unbelievable. As long as above 100hz, is already very good I feel.

High refresh gaming makes you feel your hardware is working. Having a good PC but a 60hz choppy display makes it feel like a laggy piece of thrash PC..hehe

But of course then again those who are on 60hz are used to it till they try.

Higher the refresh rate better. It’s like switching from HDD to SSD. The difference is significant. Also make sure your hardware can push to the amount of buttery smoothness you want.

I personally play fps like PUBG, CSGO at 165Hz damn shiok! (XB271HU) Not only games, I also use 3D modelling software for work which elevates the experience.

Depends. I personally game on 1440p and on 1080p. For competitive titles, 1080p 240hz is the best performance. For AAA titles, 1440p 165hz IPS will look great.

It's either u go for very high refresh rates for the best competitive edge and smoothness or if your game title is about graphics then higher resolution to make it look nicer.i don't recommend 27inch 1440p for competitive titles as competitive gaming requires a more smaller display like 24 to 25 inch for better peripheral vision. 27 inch is too big when fast response is required. Example u need to look at radar at the top left...and also focus on the crosshairs

The priority here is higher fps, doesn’t matter 1080p or 1440p. Just make sure your hardware can push the amount of frames you need at the resolution you want. These two (resolution and refresh rate) will help to narrow down on your monitor selection.

one concern, I read some after switch to 144hz & when return to 60hz will find it unbearable? afterall, will still need to work on 60hz when not gaming

there are defintely 2 camps

after gaming be it competitively or casually for fun, those that do not bother about going 144hz or higher are generally "noobs" in the games that i play. no offence haha. but for FPS, refresh rate clearly is very important not only for people who are going pro but for just individual satisfaction.

Try it first and see for your own.

Even for normal desktop usage, be it browsing, moving up your web page up and down has smoother feel and look since more frames are shown on screen. 60hz at this age, is really just for office use or someone who doesnt game at all. For a home entertainment system, with how good cpu processors and graphic cards are, why bottleneck your system with a 60hz display showing out 60 frames only? Games in this generation hardware evolution clearly can show more than 60 frames in most games.

its like people spending money on multi core processors like ryzen and intel i7 etc, fast SSDs and modern graphic cards, but end up the display where you are show casing what your hardware is, is a slow choppy 60hz monitor. Spend so much for your hardware and the final user experience on a display is choppy. O_O

Of course those who are using a 60hz monitor up till today will argue that 60hz is fine, of course its fine because you didnt experience 144hz yet. Some dont wanna get 144hz because..... .... they wanna save money.


In regards to eye strain, get those 144hz monitors that is Flicker free or have low blue light emissions.

workwise will be more useful as you can have more windows around

Been using 27in 1440P and i have to agree, 32in 1440p is the sweet spot for many things.

Switching back to 60hz is bad if it's for gaming. Office work and browsing is fine
