One side effect of switching to the Starhub TV+ is that at least the HW is ready for 4K Streaming.

Wonder if the Starhub TV+ channel quality is better than the fibre box, even for HD channels.

The fibre box bitrate is bad - even for the FTA channels the PQ is better via DVB-T2.

Does SH and ST new TV boxes HDMI output require HDCP?

Checked with my mum, she only watches FTA channels and below

403 - Crime + Investigation (Can be replaced with other CSI style documentary show)
805 - Phoenix Chinese Channel
806 - Phoenix Infonews Channel
833 - Asia Travel HD (similar style channel can replace this)
838 - TVBJ (TVB pack?)

HDCP has always been required for HD, even with the old Starhub boxes.

**** From Starhub IPTV user guide ***
To enjoy HDTV, you need to be using a HD-ready TV set that meets the following minimum
specifications:
- Supports vertical video resolution of at least 720 lines
- Supports 16:9 Widescreen aspect ratio
- Supports the following Video Input types: High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI)
- Supports HDCP copy protection.
****

But it should not be an issue for most of the TV. I have been using dumb 1080p TVs with my SingTel TV box since Feb 2012.

Only issue is Netflix UHD 4k, which will require HDCP 2.2 compatible HDMI ports and cables, which could be a problem for old TVs.

Starhub CH838 TVB Jade is available in SingTel TV (CANTO add-on pack, for TVB Jade Live and VOD), and also TVB Anywhere+.

I think you have to stick with Starhub as the two Phoenix channels are not available from SingTel TV.

Probably not any time soon for the 4k TV programs. But at least now the hardware is ready for 4k. You can use the Starhub TV+ box for 4k streaming already, for example, Netflix 4K if you have the right subscription.

There are new feature available in the Starhub GO streaming box. I just missed a show then go TV guide and select it then it will catch up. No need to go to the catch up channel to catch up. Most channels have such feature but not all channels have it.

So you are still using the Go Streaming box and the Starhub Go packs. I assume you can also use Staemrhub TV+ apps on mobile as well, right?

Starhub TV services are a bit messy now.

1) Starhub Go packs with optional Starhub Streaming Box. No need to subscribe to Starhub Fibre Internet.

Old Starhub Go Streaming box has been changed to Starhub Streaming Box.

2) New Starhub TV+ services with the optional Starhub TV+ box. No need to subscribe to Starhub Fibre Internet, unless you need MediaCorp Free To Air channels. In that case you need to subscribe to Starhub Fibre Internet and use Nokia router for now (no idea why it is like this).

Starhub TV+ box

3) Older Entertainment+ Pass with set-top box (using ONT port 2), who can enjoy free Starhub TV+ on the go. Need to subscribe to Starhub Fibre broadband. If not a monthly link access fee of S$15 applies.

Starhub TV offerings are getting confusing for consumers and they should make it clear which direction they are moving. Decided not to renew my fibre TV and terminate my SH fibre broadband which was free for 2years after porting over from cable TV. I was an early adopter of HDTV when they were still giving out free TV set top boxes. No rental BS. Alas that journey has come to an end and decided that OTT is the way to go. I still have my SingTel fibre, with my Netflix, Viu, HBO GO (HBO Max soon hopefully), Apple TV, Mewatch (live local TV), Nvidia Shield, Chromecast and VPN, I am good to go. Hopefully Hotstar and Disney+ will be available soon.

I tend to believe Starhub TV+ is the direction for Starhub, the Starhub TV+ box is actually optional since you can use Chromecast to TV with your Chromecast dongle or Nvidia Shield TV.

But they really should come out Android TV OS version and Apple TV version of Starhub TV+ app to cover more device support.

I agree with you cord cutting is the trend.

And for VOD I think there are enough OTT streaming providers out there and there are more coming.

Issues are more with live TV, where Starhub TV+ and SingTel TV may still have an edge.

Honestly as more OTT streaming came, it will be harder for Starhub and Singtel to do business.

Very confusing.
My mum fiber tv contract ending end Nov. now checking on the deals.
So I can sign up on the TVpass for her. N use M1 broadband right ? What about the router ? Can I use the linksys router given by starhub previously on M1 ONT?

I have log in n can’t seem to see any special deals that you guys have.

Yes you can subscribe to TV+ passes and use M1 Internet.
https://www.starhub.com/personal/tvplus/passes.html

And yes you can use EA8100 with M1 Internet.

But you will lose the access to MediaCorp FTA channels like CH5/CH8 which can be important for some people. But if you already has a TV with DVB-T2 tuner built-in and the antenna, that is not an issue any more.

Why do you want to switch to M1?

You can always call Starhub or visit the shops to see if there are good recontract deals. But now it is probably too early.

Disappointed by Starhub.

here is the story.

Fibre by Starhub: Free, ending on Nov 2020
TV by Starhub: Contract ending June 2021

I want to switch to the Starhub TV+ plan as to avoid the $15 charge in case I want to change ISP after the free Fibre offer is over.

Now the only thing I need is to transfer my Starhub TV service to the new TV+ aka recontract

Called the sales hotline and CS hotline several times and everybody is giving a different answer.

1 of them directed me to the store promising the store would be able to collect back my old setup box at the same time recontract and issue me with the new Starhub TV+ box. In the end it did not happen and was directed by the sales personnel there to call back 1630 for recontract.

Instead I decided to drop them an email quoting Starhub's own FAQ site. A day later, they replied with the green light to recontract without penalty all I need to do was to call 1630. Comes with a year free of HBO and setup box rental.

Yesterday I called in to 1630. In the end the lady over the phone informed me there is no such thing even when I quote their FAQ site and email and promised a call back.

After the call, I replied to Starhub email. Today they sent me an email again stating a sales rep will be in touch with me within 48hours.

By the way,

Existing customer all is free to recontract to the new TV Plus plan stated very clearly in their FAQ Site. WITHOUT PENALTY.

https://www.starhub.com/personal/support/article.html?id=Q66SLdTvjX4zxVjCxxuk09

look at FAQ 11 and 12.

Sorry for this long post.
