What kind of upload activity? ISPs may choose to throttle things like Bit Torrent.

In terms of throttling of torrent, it is said that M1 is not bad, not as good as VQ/MR, but better than the others (Starhub, Singtel and Whizcomms).

Take note I am using SIngtel and I support the ISP throttling of Bit Torrent myself.
starhub stills throttling torrent in this era?

I think it works, I remembered when installing the ONT the tech will plug in his laptop to test for connectivity and speed. However there no reason for direct connection unless you're doing troubleshooting since you'll need a router there to do DHCP and provide wireless wifi as I am sure you have more than one devices in your household. If you are thinking about using ONT as a "LAN switch" (since it has 4 ports), only the first port is enabled for 500Mbps/1Gbps plan and 1st/2nd port for your dual 1+1Gbps plan, the rest of the ports are disabled by default.

What could be possibly there is your machine running pfsense or hardware firewall that is running between your ONT and router filtering traffic first before it goes through your router.

Yup I understand on the dhcp. Helping a friend to ask, as he wants to connect a pc direct to the 2nd port, as advised to him by m1 cso. In my head I was thinking no internal ip, sounds super risky

for the dual 1+1Gbps plan? I don't see much advantage (unless he has some specific use case) or he wanna save on buying another router for that port since it is "dedicated" for that particular PC.

Did M1 block certain ports or DDNS services recently?

I'm using one of the DDNS services called no-ip to host my website (Port 80) using a 4G router with Singtel SIM card. Previously I was able to access to the no-ip hostname URL using M1 mobile/fibre network without any issues. However, I found that I can no longer access to the URL since a couple of days ago. But I can still access to the URL if I use Singtel or Starhub mobile/fibre network. Only M1 is not working for some reason.

I'm not really an IT tech person. Could it be M1 or Singtel blocking certain ports or DDNS services? Anyone knows what's going on here? Thanks in advance!

most likely M1 did not "detect" the IP change from the DDNS service, try to do a DNS flush/cycle on your M1 device?

Using the M1 connection, you can try to do a lookup on the no-ip hostname and see whats IP address is returned and see if it matches with the one assigned to your Singtel SIM card.

M1 cannot block port 80 else you cannot surf other websites already.

It's very unlikely due to this. I have used multiple devices to test. I even asked my friends to try on their M1 mobile/fibre network but still getting the same result.

Yes, I believe no-ip hostname routing works fine as I can see my router public IP address on no-ip website and it matches with the one assigned to my Singtel SIM card. As I mentioned earlier, I can access to the URL using Singtel or Starhub mobile/fibre network. Only M1 is not working for some reason.

I'm going to call M1 hotline to ask. What's the hotline for Technical Support?

I mean most likely M1 DNS servers not updating (fast enough) long TTL to see the change, another alternative is to use a 3rd party DNS provider like Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) or OpenDNS.

no-ip hostname routing might works fine but as long M1 DNS not updating, you still get the old IP address.

You can call 1627 or use the chat widget on M1 website.

So it's probably because of M1 DNS server issue? We just discovered this problem like a couple of days ago. Previously it was working fine for 2-3 years until now. Suddenly just like that. :(

nobody can tell but thats how I will troubleshoot the problem.

using a device with an M1 connection, change the DNS provider (either Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 or OpenDNS will do) on the browser and then do a DNS flush (optional) and do a test again.

2 mins quick fix troubleshooting, if the problem persists then try calling 1627 for help.

I think I am not technically correct in my explanation. Since no-ip hostname remains unchanged, by right the DNS server should still pick up the existing same hostname with the IP change (no-ip backend doing the redirect) but since this on firsthand looks like an DNS redirecting issue, we should try eliminate the problem by changing the DNS provider and see if this is an DNS issue. If it doesn't then the next logical troubleshooting step will be the M1 surfing device itself or the SIM router handling the traffic.

Chances of being M1 fault (backend) is quite low since you circumvent domain hostname block with the DNS provider switching and M1 can't block port 80 of the visiting visitor (however they can block the web hosting server port though but in this case you are using Singtel).

Try accessing using IP see if can access or not.

hi. any idea of how much the static ip add on costs? thanks

Interestingly I do not see the Static IP cost listed in M1 website.
https://www.m1.com.sg/support/faq/static-ip-service-faq
Old reports mentioned it was S$2 per month. You may want to confirm with M1.

Just wondering why do you need a static IP? Typically you should be okay with a public IPv4 address which M1 provides. M1 also has IPv6 address.

I tell you a tip: as long as you don't reset/reboot your router, your IP address stays the same (static) :p

There always Cloudflare secure tunneling (just need a domain) and its free

It can change when the scheduled maintainance downtime is over an hour or 2 hours. But those are quite rare, I've been holding on to the same IP for the past few months.

like mach3.2 says, it only stays the same until the service provider does some work on their OLT, then there will be a new randomly assigned IP address
