Hello guys
As VQ is not offering 10GBPS except for existing SI 10GBPS, which I am not, I'm thinking to switch to MR 10GBPS.
I have few months left in my contract with VQ but I would be okay to forfeit it (Need sure if there is a fee linked to early termination but I've asked them)

I'm just a little skeptical on this trial for 10GBPS with MR..if I am back to 1GBPS, it's more or less like VQ...Yet I doubt I want to wait end of the year to see ;)

Any advise or comments from your experience to terminate earlier and move to MR 10GBPS?

PS: MR still cap the upload?

the problem is after 31st Dec 2023, lets say they really revert to 1gbps. then its $53 a month. shouldn't they give us no-frills pricing at $38 instead?
$53 is so much for 1gbps for today's pricing standard across all ISP.

Went to MR physical booth to ask about recontracting early cuz mine expires Dec 2023.
The lady said can recontract early at 21 months. so i think sept i can upgrade to 10G.

Saw this on MR's facebook ad.

Sounds like they disabled the 6Ghz band on the Wifi 6E to comply with IMDA regulations. but i suppose we can download the general release firmware open to all countries and should be able to get around this?

but of course download the US firmware will void warranty. haaiii.
can flash back local firmware if having any issues right ?

This is where starhub shine. When trial is over they will still give you 2gbps if decided not to continue 10gbps.

MR or Starhub more reliable without too much downtime ?

We probably can. hopefully flashing to the US firmware won't brick the router.
But knowing IMDA blocks 6ghz band on the router, means they probably will also restrict the phones, tablets and laptops.
This is only Wifi6e which had been around for at least 2 years? now we are already moving to wifi7 already.

Imda already approved 6ghz liao

Not sure why Singapore adopted wifi 6e so slow. Hopefully sg will adopt wifi 7 quicker.

Approved but not activated apparently?

My 2023 M2 Macbook Pro with Wifi6E is still not seeing the 6GHz network that's being broadcasted by my XE75 Pro :(
That one need wait for Apple to update wifi drivers bah

Apparently the priority was for 5G mobile networks since those also use a portion of the 6Ghz band and those have more commercial value since the telcos have to bid for it. 6Ghz for wifi nobody pays for using it so I guess lower priority 😂

It is unlikely that Sg will be fast to adopt wifi 7 as wifi 6e is already good enough so not necessary to adopt wifi 7 so fast. Some more change router is troublesome la.

i guess why wifi6e is taking so long is because of the introduction of 6ghz band. which maybe the garment thinks it might be cancer causing. haha.
wifi7 is the use of multi link operation which is to use all bands at the same time. maybe wifi7 won't take too long to approve.

i checked the specs of xiaomi13 and oneplus11.
if you read the specs of these phones in their US or other countries website, they support wifi6e and 7.
but u look at them from their singapore website. kena nerf and put wifi6 only.
so "backward developing".

think no need buy the latest and greatest asus BE98 liao. just live with the tplink axe300.
anyway i only care about 10G LAN for now.

Wifi 7 engages all the bands together making it more stable and lesser dead spots which I think it's very worth it though. However the costs of router is a killer

what if we get wifi 7 router/AP from taobao?

will it break any IMDA radio laws?

or no point since local devices can't even detect wifi 7?

In May, IMDA has approved on principle the de-regulation of 500MHz of spectrum in the 6 GHz band for use by Wi-Fi devices in Singapore (both Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7), legislation will take a few months to be amended (expected by Q3 2023) and device vendors will take a while after to update their firmware support the new rules.

correct me if I am wrong... if you have a transmitter and receiver capable of specs of wifi 8, 9 or even 10 it will still works technically/in theory irregardless. The radio law refers to licensing of equipments capable of these newer speed at designated band ranges, since these network peripherals require importing approval, you won't see them in the local market (before licensing) hence nobody can connect them at that band.

Just take not that China has not even approved 6GHz band for WiFi 6E yet. So those Chinese routers which are said to be (eg: Xiaomi) or even claimed to be (eg: TP-Link) WiFi 7 ready will not have 6GHz capable FW loaded. That will be the case for Xiaomi 10000/7000 and a few TP-Link TL-7TR13090 (BE13000). You do not know when China will approve WiFi 7 so you have to wati for the WiFi 7 capable FW.

Therefore I think it does not make sense to buy such routers from Taobao as of now if your intention is to get a router which is capable of 6GHz band out of box.

Reference: TP-Link TL-7TR13090 (BE13000) "so-called WiFI 7" router site. You can see that it does not support 6GHz as of now, rather there are now two 5GHz band.
