Not 10 years but coming to 7 years with an upgrade of HDD to SSD in 2020!

I shall buy a new rig in 2024! :giggle:
My Alienware Aurora R5 also coming to 7 years. I only added Creative sound card and put in HDD from previous PC. I also need to update driver before the 5Ghz is detected after changing to AX router. Other than that no other issues so I think can use for another few more years.:)

Ya! No need to buy a new pc if we can upgrade the internal to serve us better.

Anyway, for my 5Ghz connection. It failed again as I think it is really due to the placement of my pc and my bedroom as a whole.

The 5Ghz only connected momentally and then failed. I gave up already and just stict to 2.4Ghz at 72mbps for my pc. Haha.

Hi, apologies if this has been asked before but anyone managed to get their 80$ voucher as a new sign up? Just wondering as I have yet to receive mine since my broadband has been up for a week.

Okay! Finally gotten my M1 BB worth the $36.90 per month and its 5Ghz is working perfectly on my 7 years old PC. 😬

My $39.00 instant noodle style solution. Lazy to replace my old PCI-E card with a new one! 😬 🤭

My PC internet speed test result. The max speed for this adaptor is 866/866.

Previous on 2.4Ghz. It was in the region of 80/40 max using the old build-in Realtek 8821AE PCI-E in which it was very difficult and slow to connect and many times, it failed to connect to the 5Ghz after many self-try lol! :ROFLMAO::poop:

does the price increase after contract expires and u do not recontract?
Yes. It increased to $40.++ from $36.90 and I'm stuck with the 2 years old aging router once my contractual period was over back in June 2023.

So, it is really worth to recontract. You get a new Wi-Fi6 router with so much improvement in term of speed, coverage and stability, and $80 voucher and cheaper $36.90 monthly fee.

ah got it. was thinking of holding off recontracting to possibly move to simba fibre. but there's still no firm date/info for that

Depending on when simba BB is available in your area.

May be it is still worth it to break the M1 contract to join simba later since the price difference is almost $17 per month and that the speed given is 1.5Gbps of difference as well! lol... 🤭

$36 is promotional price, regular price for 1Gbps is $40, after contract will revert to regular price.

As always, read the fine prints.

I renewed 1Gbps contract in August and monthly bill is $38.50 since then. Am wondering if it should be $36.

I had renewed my fibre broadband plan early and got a charge for early renewal.

I thought there would not be a charge for early renewal as long as I am continuing with my current plan.

Is this a new and recent change by M1?

I had just spoken to M1 customer service and they will get back to me shortly.

it's been like that in the past. the renewal window opens a few months before end of contract. a renewal charge applies if you renew before, as you experienced.

that's a good deal, looks like they made the recontract more attractive - before that, there was a disincentive to recontract, so people would leave.....

before covid, there was no router for recontract of 1Gbps plan - they just gave a 2 year warranty on existing, previously issued router. if the router died, either they repaired it, or swapped it (if you didn't return the old router, you were charged for a new router). also, if one upgraded from 500Mbps to 1Gbps plan, a contract would apply, but no router isnce it was considered a "recontract"

So, i left it on 500Mbps till today.

Yeah! I need a 1Gbps plan as there are about 18 devices fighting for bandwidth at peak hours.

At $36.++ with a free new router for recontract. It is a no Brainer! Afterall, M1 BB perfomance has been super good and solid!

I chose the TP-Link router and never regretted. It is fast and the TP-LINK router home web and app are both super useful and fast as well.

Also, I use a few TP-LINK smart plugs for my Google Home Assistant.

IMHO, Asus router (which I used it during the previous M1 BB contract) web and app are too heavy and slow!

As an ex-TP Link and current Asus router users, Asus offering at the low end is always bad. For those on budget TP Link performs better for the money.

But at mid and high end Asus is the better performing one.

Also one suggestion for you is put your AX55 into Media Bridge mode. This will turn it into a giant WiFi adapter + switch for all the devices connected to it's LAN ports, and should provide better WiFi performance over the WiFi adapter too.

[Wireless Router] How to set up media bridge mode on ASUS Wireless Router?
