Auto-negotiation should work.

What kind of cable are you using? When the NIC cannot maintain a 10GbE link, it will down negotiate to a link speed that it can maintain.

Thank you stranger. It works now! i swapped with another Panduit CAT 6 cable. It's now back to 10G link speed.

I was using this overpriced cable last night. It was working well too. I have another spare, I'll try to swap it and test again.

When i upgraded my own desktop rigs to those with 2.5Gbps RJ45 onboard and my main switch from 1Gbps to a 2.5Gbps network switch, the whole process forced me to do a massive stocktake + Marie Kondo of 20 years' worth of a mountain of RJ45 cables of various lengths accumulated from God knows where, because many of them simply would not hold stable at 2.5Gbps, despite being labeled as "CAT 5E"

The good thing is my home's network backbone (from my hall to RJ45 wall sockets in the rooms) is Schneider Electric CAT 6 cables which i laid and crimped myself, so all i had to replace were the various cables going from these wall sockets to my devices like my desktop rigs etc

I din open it.

I plugged directly into the ont. It could capture IP but no dns too. I gotta manually add DNS then it worked but this method doesn't work on the deco. Is it MR issue or NLT?

Yes I think so. They may be entertain your request to improve, but no guarantee they will be able to resolve the issue.

I tend to think Gamer Plan is just a gimmick and gaming VPN or accelerator will be more useful.

BUT I am not into gaming so take my answer with a grain of salt.

I did. In fact I bought a 2nd one and even bought a 3rd party antenna, total 4 sets of antenna and 2 different adaptor. It's the same result. 6 ghz band speed around 400mbps. Normal wifi 5ghz band hitting 900+mbpz

Hi experts, am thinking of signing up 10g starhub bundle 69.95.

I have some questions as im new to these.
1. Currently have 2x mx4200 can these still be used to support new speeds?
2. Do I need to buy a 10g switch (recommend pls) since I need lan ports to be connected to my rooms?

1. Linksys Mx4200 is Wifi 6, so it wont support the new speeds.

2. 10g Switch will be required.

The real question is are you willing to spend a lot of money? Wifi 7 routers range from $500-1K+. 10g switch is ~$500, but will be very large and noisy due to fans, as the heat dissipation will be very high.

The next question is, do your devices support Wifi 7, or 10Gbps? Many devices are wifi 6, or 1Gbps. So even if you upgrade wifi router and switch, your devices may not support yet.

So for many people, treat the starhub bundle as paying for the entertainment bundle of TV, netflix, disney+ etc. The 10Gbps internet is just a plus point.

Yes initially.

Later quite some of then will buy the 10G switch and 10G capable WiFi 7 router/AP since they want to utilize the 10Gbps bandwidth (or 8.2Gbps in reality due to XGS-PON limitations) as much as possible.

Some of them may settle for 2.5G capable gears as it is still much cheaper than 10G gears (router, switch and network adapter).

BTW, the cost is high now for 6GHz capable WiFi 7 routers but we should see cost going down next year.

This (10Gbps users upgrading their network gears) will be a good thing, as we will get more home network power users in this forum.

Just share my personal experiences. I was using single Linksys WRT1900AC from April 2014 to Sept 2018 as my main router. After upgraded to SingTel 1Gbps in Sept 2018, I started to feel the limitation of the Linksys and experimented with different technology like power line adapters, low end mesh solution until in the end settle with Asus RT-AX82U in late 2020 (and upgraded to Asus RT-AX86U in late 2022). I also started to play use OpenWRT/pfSense with low power Intel CPU based mini PC. It was a good learning experiences for me even though I wasted quite a bit of money between 2018 to 2020.

I will not subscribe to the 10Gbps in the forseable future. But I have got 2.5G capable gears (mini PC, 2.5G switch and wireless router) to be ready for future 2.5Gbps plan (not going to SIMBA as it is using CGNAT).
