For those who do not plan to get 10G gears, but not willing to continue to recontract the 1Gbps plan from SingTel/M1/Starhub/MyRepublic/Viewquest, there is another good choice if SIMBA is available to you: to get WC 2.5Gbps + SIMBA 2.5Gbps plan. You pay only S$43.6 per month (GST included).

I do not recommend either WC 2.5Gbps plan (ONR, aggregated 2.5Gbps) or SIMBA 2.5Gbps plan (CGNAT, no digital voice if you need that, new player) if you just plan to get only one ISP. However, when you get both, you kind of sort out the limitations.

You can even use dual WAN Load Balance/Failover with a proper router and get redundancy and higher than 2Gbps wired speed as well as greater than 1Gbps wireless speed.

You can use routers like Asus RT-AX86U Pro, GT-AX6000 and Xiaomi BE7000. You can also use wired router like OpenWRT/pfSense using Intel N100 based mini PC with Quad 2.5G NICs plus cheap 2.5G APs like Asus TUF-AX4200, Xiaomi BE3600, etc.
"Edit: I am not specifically referring to xiaofan's mentioned situation above. Just talking about hardware."

Actually im curious if TP Link AXE300 for ~$300 on carousell versus using Intel N100 mini PC quad 2.5G NICs, price wise worth getting the N100 and setup everything? I see prices for barebones is already close to $220-250 range, add RAM and NVMe SSD, also about same price liao. But still no 10G BaseT port / SFP+ port. Still need to setup pfSense/openWRT/Proxmox.

Maybe if have more TP Link AXE300 on carousell, can consider the following for the average person, easier to setup:
ONT -> AXE300 -> 10G BaseT/SFP+/DAC to a 5/8 port 2.5G switch -> patch panel to rooms.

Now I see aliexpress sell these kind of 2.5G switch with SFP+ port in the range of $35-70 for 5 or 8 port. DAC cable about $8-10. Of course add GST price a bit more, about $70 for 8 port + 1m DAC cable.

SG$34.76 68%OFF | Hisource 4 8 Port 2.5G Ethernet Switch None POE Network Switch with 1*10G SFP Port for IP Camera/CCTV Security https://a.aliexpress.com/_oE4tYxo

SG$7.74 71%OFF | 10G SFP+ Direct Attach Passive Copper Cables DAC Cable Direct Attach Passive Cable 0.5-10M for Cisco Huawei MikroTik Switch https://a.aliexpress.com/_oFgSEz4

Hi bros

From reading last few pages, can i conclude one thing for SH 10gbps plan.

by “politely” requesting from the SH trooper for the super admin access , can help to turn the ONR into ONT for good (aka permanently) ?

Been wanting to go onboard because the plan together with the EPL is cheaper than my current 1gbps + EPL package.

only want to fully onboard if ONT can be set to on for good.

SH trooper can give you Superadmin password to you if you request from him nicely. But he will not change the ONR mode to ONT mode for you. You have to DIY At your own risk. As he have to follow SOP Only set up Nokia ONR and nokia Wifi to SH TV box.

Prepare to wait for 6 to 8 weeks for the installation to be completed. long waiting list.

Even if SH trooper will set to ONT mode, i feel the risk is SH can always override & you have no case cos they will say we already told you its ONR, if you die die must use ONT then find an ISP using ONT.

Similarly i was told that if you ask nicely Singtel will set to ONT mode. Dunno how true but again, if they change their mind you can’t complain.

you don't know that.

anyone doing config changes on their ONR are taking a gamble that starhub won't push the default config down to everyone some day in the future.

Hopefully the superadmin password remains the same when that happens so they can go in and bridge the ONR again.

Can always turn off the TR-069 profile to prevent Starhub from doing so. Previously in my screenshots, showed is a toggle / profile can be disabled.

Any recommendation for cheap PCIE network card that supports 10 gbps?
If you lazy to deal with Taobao / cannot read chinese. Can buy from this shopee listing, i bought and tested, works. The X540-T2 can get quite hot when running, best if have good airflow. Take note this DOES NOT support 2.5Gbps and 5Gbps. Only 10Gbps and 1Gbps. Comes with half height and full height bracket.

You may run into issues trying to run BOTH 10Gbps ports if your PCIE x16 slot only runs at x4 speed. Can support 1 port at full speed.

Would suggest to pay a little more and get one that is VLAN capable for future proofing since it's only marginally more expensive.

And also if you are those kind of person that are particular about power consumption one, especially you want to let it run 24/7, X540-T2 uses more energy than AQC107/AQC113, I have calculated, the price for energy will be as much as $2.5 more per month for X540-T2 than AQC107/AQC113

But the electricity cost vs price of the NIC, worth the difference anot?

X540-T2 less than $20, AQC107 is almost 5 times the price. And the difference between having 2 10GbE ports vs 1 port only on the AQC NICs.

so it is up to the priority of the buyer wants. for the energy ROI is about 3 years if turn on 24/7. For feature wise is X540-T2 has 2 port ( might not be useful for desktop usage), for AQC, it can support 1/2.5/5/10Gbps.

Ok lah, more choice better for consumer. Good to know.

I recently signed up for SH ultraspeed 10G, it is indeed a good deal, especially if you have subscriptions to sports and streaming services like Netflix and Disney+

On installation day (Feb 13), I asked nicely but the installer sort of acted blur and did not acknowledge that such a thing as a superadmin password existed. He insisted that the package comes with an ONR and that's the only way the set up can be. I tried asking the question in a different way but got the same answer, he said that it's not possible to enable a bridge mode for the Nokia ONR, etc etc.

Fortunately he had an ipad sort of thing with "superadmin password" clearly showing on the screen and I just took a photo of it with my phone.

After the installer left, I just used that password from the photo to access superadmin on the ONR and followed Commandowolf's instructions to change to bridge mode and all is working great now with my pfsense router.

Thank you to the folks here for all the great information!

BTW has anyone turned off the TR-069 profile via the toggle? is there any effect to this?
