You can hack anything that is not structural and replace with whatever you want. Not sure why you want to spend that money though.

Wow.
But SG climate is wet and humid.

I dont recommend. High chance will have mold growing

Also the drywall will become soggy

Same thing with the IKEA particle board shelves in SG. Under heavy weight after a while will warp and sag.

In Canada the shelves are good years and years. Dry climate.

Walls not under weight so wont see it for some time.

But with the mold etc. See how long it lasts.

Hope they use the special more waterproof type of drywall in the toilet areas.

Drywall is lighter. For houses without piling makes sense to use lighter materials.

it make sense to giv gypsium drywall for BTO... becoz peasants want to cosplay big open space so they hack walls... better to giv gypsium drywall if sinkies going to hack.... easier and save money.......
That makes sense. Thanks for sharing.
Might be a smart move by HDB.

Just curious...
Can
What is the difference between dry wall and concrete walls ?
Dry wall is plasterboard with rockwool inside. Concrete walls, actually is just walls made of bricks. They are more solid compared to drywall.
Should be ok. Just need PE approval for hacking usually.

u got check the cost.
This usually dont need PE. PE is mostly when they have a lintel (or hdb call it hanger). Most probably will need at service kitchen to service yard wall.
Noise. Dry wall = hollow = more sound if piak piak
Technically, drywall have higher stc value compared to brickwall. Drywall have a stc value of 38 if i rmb correctly (100mm detail with 60kg/m3 rockwool)
But must understand, that testing at a approved testing center is a controlled environment. Do 101% then can get stc 38, if on site, sure only 90% thats why u can hear other piak piak sound.
Drywall has lousy sound insulation, concrete walls are better in blocking mid to high freq sound.

Toilet and perimeter of whole house is still mostly erected using brickwalls. I know of some 2000s bto PBU is not brickwall. But if not wrong they tarik back.l, because i now see all is brickwall.

Im a HDBRC, hope that helps !
