It's not about courage, none of us likes kid and nothing put me in a sour mood as fast as a crying kid.
It's ok to die childless. Many parents also die alone.
A working spouse gives you more options.
My baby seldom cry to be honest. She was just like a mini me, keep on smiling to seek attention, sometimes just feel like pinch her face. :)

The feeling of having your own child is something which cannot be expressed unless you experience it yourself. Also the attachment that a person can have with their own children cannot be compared with any other relationship, not even with spouse or parents or siblings.

From my observations and own experiences 😔

There'll be phases where your kid will prefer to play with her phone/tablet/pc than to play with you. Then she'll prefer to hang out with her friends than to be with you. Then her husband first, her own kids, her affair partners 🤪.

Most people spoil their kids silly but not their own parents.

Parents seem to be the last in kids' mind.

Maybe. But that is fine. If you have a child you will learn to give, without expecting anything back. You can do this only for your children, not anyone else. But, in your case, you expect your wife also to work and not be a dead weight, lol. If this is your attitude in life, then yes, I agree with your decision, you shouldnt have kids.

Well, parents and in laws get good medical cares, mortgages, cars, renovations, allowances and holiday trips taken care of.

If I have a non working wife, instead of providing and enjoying the finer things in life without worry, I'd be penny pinching just like you lol. Life is too short for that.

I dunno why she behaves like me when I was a baby. I guess this is the magic of DNA.

It seems like you are unaware of child psychology.
All humans grow up starting as egocentric babies.

Everything social/relational is learnt from parents first and then friends/peers. In fact, children mimick/copy their parents first before they learn anything from their peers.

So badly behaving selfish parents = badly behaving selfish children.

Penny pinching is a habit, people who have millions of dollars could be penny pinching while people who live paycheck to paycheck could be splurging. This has nothing to do with working or non working spouse. If my wife was working, there would be no change in my spending habits. Our networth would grow to such crazy proportions, we wouldnt know what to do with it. Hence, we decided that my wife doesnt have to work. In fact, even I dont need to work at this point, lol.

1.6M and stop working?
Super risky but doable with geo-arbitrage.
I am interested in knowing how you'll manage with 1.6m.

There's nothing wrong with that.
It's a logical move.
You probably will do the same if you are to retire with 1.6m and 3 mouths to feed.

Outside of Singapore 1.6M is lot of money, only a small fraction of people have that much.
1.6 M sgd converted to RM 5600000, you can live in Malaysia like a king.
just imagine you put RM5 million in Maybank, with a dividend yield of 6.1%, annual dividend is a whopping 306000 RM which is 25510 RM monthly. If you spend RM1000 on rental, still left with 24510 for you and you have to crack your head to fully spend it. Then next month another 25510 RM goes in your bank account. Rinse and repeat.

I got friends with no kids earning $50-60k a month. Not sure how they spend this money.

Cars
Wine and dine
Holidays
Investments
Watches
Bags

Plenty of stuff

Interesting to compare my spending pattern with others view on how to spend money

Cars: I only have one. Mileage in 2023 was less than 9000km, so I guess pointless to get a 2nd.

Wine and Dine: Don't really drink alcohol, but nice to meet friends for dinner. I detox 3 days a week by going vegetarian salad.

Holidays: A big planned expenditure, but so far not spending my budget - too many overseas business trips, a bit 'sian' to go on more overseas holidays because of that.

Investments: My biggest "expenditure". VWRD and VUSD 😅

Watches: I think GPS watch/trackers 'saved' me from beginning an expensive watch collecting hobby, as I like to track heart rate and other health stats... I haven't worn my Seiko or Casio watch for the longest time.... GPS tracker is on my wrist most of the time...

Bags: For women I guess

Use it to buy time and happiness.
Do whatever, be with whoever, wherever and whenever they are happy.
Or
just the simple "2 chicks at a time".

Die with zero is a good read.
We have been busy collecting good memories and experiences instead of penny pinching since then.
