Hi guys, I have a question for the SH 10gbps line... Should I get another EB810V or get a BE805 for the 2nd unit for my home please? thank you
i got addn EB810V from starhub @ sgd360. Used in study room for my NAS for 2.5g and PC with 10g. Luckily I got addn 1 because I am unable to get full coverage of house 4 rm flat as the main router in the DB box.

i got like super super low wifi speed (16 mbps) in the study room door closed (room beside MBR) with only the main router on :/

It varies from flat to flat i guess..

Some of my friends could get 3xx mbps in their MBR with 1 router at DB box.

I cant even connect any wifi in my MBR far corner...

You could try picking different channel - I found my EB810v picked a congested 2.4GHz range (2.4GHz since it'll go further), and when I changed it (tried a few) I found my laptop in my bedroom had a more consistent connection (even if still slow due to distance/walls). I used one of those free wifi-scanner apps that shows what nearby APs are using (surprising how many I can see given what would be a weak signal!). I think a lot of people turn up power/gain and it blasts/congests with everyone else around.

A bit late to the party, my MR 1GB is expiring and I am contemplating moving to 10GB between SH EB810V or MR's BE805 mesh.

I want to get the GT-BE25000 but its a bit pricey for me.
I am currently using the GT-AX11000 and I am missing a bar in my study where I WFH.

Any recommendations pls?

I did it via the local webadmin tool (https://192.168.0.1) - hopefully they gave you the password for it. It's under Wireless -> Wireless Settings, then click the Advanced arrow on that page. Tip: either change it from a wired device, or only change one of the 2.4 or 5 entries at a time - because if you pick settings that your client can't work with, you'll lose access.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/u...989/wireless/intel-killer-wi-fi-products.html - this also has a good summary about channel numbers and channel width. Wider channels can give more speed but if you don't need the speed, smaller width can help with interference from overlapping wider channels.

Hi all, I decided to post a more detailed layout of my network at home - hoping to get some feedback from the pros here. It has been many years since I've worked on my home network and so my networking knowledge is rather rusty and probably not the best.

I currently have my ONT and network patch panel in my bomb shelter so I get terrible wifi - been like this for the past 7 years.

I've now just recontracted and now going for the SH 10gbps, I'd now like to take this time for better placement of the router. Given that I'm quite constrained as my patch panel and ONT is in the bomb shelter I think I have these 2 options.

Note: I have 2 Lan connections from patch panel to the living room area.

1.) ONT in bomb shelter, connect to WAN port on router (now located in living room) and then from LAN port 1 on router connecting back to bomb shelter (2 LAN connections to living room from bomb shelter) and then connecting into a switch. The rest of the rooms connecting to patch panel will then connect into the switch giving internet access to each room. I can then connect another EB810v / BE805, but I think this can't be via ethernet backhaul as I only have 2 LAN lines in the living room (both now used up).

2.) Shift ONT to living room, then connect router to ONT. Of the existing 2 LAN connections to patch panel (in bomb shelter), I could use one for ethernet backhaul to another EB810v / BE805 unit for mesh network, and use the other LAN connection to connect to patch panel into a switch, which would then give LAN connections to all the rooms.

Is my understanding above correct? Any ideas on how to make the network better?

thank you all...!

Honestly, SH just have a very lousy technical support and everytime call me just to get my speed test and they did nothing to resolve the issue.

I will recommend to go with Option 1. You do need to pay for a 10G switch (which support 1G/2.5G/10G) but then all room LAN ports will be capable of 10G.

1. Option 1: Ethernet Backhaul is fine, no need to shift the ONT.
Nokia XGS-PON ONT in DB Box --patch panel -- living room LAN port 1 -- EB810v main router in living room

EB810v 10G LAN port -- living room LAN port 2 -- patach panel -- 10G switch in DB box -- bedrooms LAN ports (10G capable)

Bedroom LAN port -- another EB810v (10G Ethernet backhaul).

2. Option 2: to relocate the ONT to living room

Nokia XGS-PON ONT in living room -- EB810v main router in living room

EB810v 10G LAN port -- -- living room LAN port 1 -- patch panel in DB box -- one bedroom LAN port -- another EB810v (10G Ethernet backhaul).

EB810v 2.5G LAN port -- -- living room LAN port 2 -- patch panel in DB box -- 2.5G switch -- other bedroom LAN ports (2.5G only)

Hi xiaofan, thanks so much. What I didn't realise was that I could do a EB810v 10G -- 10G switch -- EB810v 10G and that would still mean an ethernet backhaul. If that's the case would it also work if I had a 3rd EB810v which I would connect to the 10G switch and all 3 would be on ethernet backhaul?

Option 1 will be easier as only traditional cat. 6 LAN Cables required. Most contractor will know how to do it nicely for you.

Seems like sh is famous for speedtest. Even their new eight.com mvno is asking people to do speedtest. Seems like speedtest is their go to troubleshooter. Haha.

But that is very stupid as they did nothing and hoping it will be ok by itself and this is impossible la. Why they so smart la?

Are you getting the ONR (with wireless) or choosing the ONT option (to buy your own router).

If you choose to go with the ONR, I will suggest you try it first to see how it goes before buying any other routers.

If you opt to go for the ONT, then I feel TP-Link Deco BE85 is overpriced (S$1489 dual pack from Challenger). It is better to get TP-Link Archer BE805 at around S$400+ BNIB from Carousell first to see how it goes.

But if you do not mind paying for the better one, then of course Deco BE85 dual pack is a better mesh solution than 2 * Archer BE805 (TP-Link EasyMesh).

actually after doing eevrything, now i think

if u sign SH 10gb, and sell the router away .. thats $70 a month - $15 a month (assume u sell for $360) = $55 a month
compared to the $45 per month 5gb plan.
so you paying $10 per month more for 5gbps faster speed + 24months of soccer + 12 months of disneyplus...

Actually not so bad huh....(wasnt thinking earlier)
then complain them to improve speed?

The good thing about the SH 5gb is that u can upgrade anytime if u are happy, so optionality, but 10gb cannot downgrade.
